What is the name of the "free" version

of Angie's List.  It is advertised all the time on HGTV.  Isn't it Home something something?

BTW Have any used it?

TIA

I just Googled this, and apparently there are several other similar sites.  HomeAdvisor.com is the first one that came up in the search.  Is that the one they mention on HGTV?

@NickNack  I think that is it!  Thanks.  We are looking for a local pest control.  We feel like the chain we are using is overcharging and not really taking care of the problem.  I hate chemicals, but don't want bugs in the house.

Thanks again, NickNack!

I've never heard of a free version of Angie's List.  I have however heard of - and used - services that list service providers.  But they're paid listings and weren't much more than glorified Yellow Pages.

I don't think Home Advisors is affiliated with Angie's List.  I've tried them both and to be honest, the best recs you can get is from friends.  We have also gone to the small local businesses where the trade professionals purchase their products and ask for recommendations.

I am editing because I just read that you are looking for a pest service.  We use local businesses where word of mouth and good referral are important to their business.  We also check and make sure they certified in pest removal.

Also try Yelp.com and your local Facebook and other neighborhood social media sites.  Word of mouth is always best.

Re: What is the name of the "free" version

@MalteseMomma ...and this is just about when she put an end to this and started the paying membership.

I used to just peruse Angie's List also but ended up yeah, paying for it.  So yes, I get tv ads about the free version but I don't know what it's called either.  I don't think the ad really says the name.

I will say though that I've found my house painters there last year, did the work this July.  They had to wait because before the painters, I found my home insulation group on the List and they insulated my home in June.  I also am glad that I can read reviews and write reviews.  Anyone who knows me knows I love to write reviews.  Both companies were great btw.

However back to my membership.  Why would I do this if I can get it or some version thereof for free?  Wonder what the difference is?

Re: What is the name of the "free" version

I am the OP and my husband just went on the HomeAdvisors page.  He has two pest control outfits coming to give quotes for service......one today and one on Saturday.  They both had good recommendations.

I'll post back after the visits.  Thanks for all the feedback.

Re: What is the name of the "free" version

I used Angie's List to find a housekeeper.  I selected one that had a bunch of great reviews.  She did a good, but not great job.  After the first cleaning, the person offered to give me a discount on my next service IF I would write them a great review.

At that point, I never used AL again, because I did not feel I could trust the reviews.
