I had an employer once who suggested I buy a home. I was a 24 year old kid living in my hometown which I hated at the time. I guess he wanted me to be indentured in a way but in the end he closed up and retired several years later and I would have been hung out to dry because employment there was hard to find.

Both my mother and mother in law didn't want my ex and I to move and build a house in the middle of no where in 1986, the area in question has grown quite a lot along with home and land prices. I'm still kicking myself over that one.

My nan can relate to that, Lynneuk. My granddad told her the same thing.
I'm still waiting to move right back home....28 years later!
Where is your Nan from Lila Belle?

She's a war bride from Devon, Torquay.
My granddad was never sent to England again although several times they stationed on the continent so that travel back home was easier.
Can you say where you're from ?

Probably the advice I gave myself at 19..."marry him, he'll change." Guess ya'll know how that turned out! ![]()

I just want to say I LOVE this thread. I'm trying really hard to think of an example from my own life. I must've purged anything from memory. LOL
ETA: I just thought of one. My own mother suggesting I move my alcoholic senile pill-popping mother-in-law in with me and dh.

Torquay is a lovely town, I can understand how she would miss it. I am also from a seaside town but up on the north coast of Wales. It is called Llandudno.
If you go to google.co.uk and search Llandudno you will be able to see how beautiful it is,lol.
I am trying to persuade my husband to move there for retirement after his Mom and Dad are gone. It is a hard sell because of the exchange rate, I'm not giving up though and I keep buying the Lotto tickets!

I honestly cannot think of anything. I guess I've discarded any negatives and moved forward.
