This is going years back, but I really liked Casual Corner.

Wow yeah I remember them!!  Every payday, I would head to the Casual Corner in downtown Baltimore.  They had some great stuff in the 70's especially.  I must say, I looked like a model strutting in my platform shoes (at 5'11" 125 pounds) back in the day. I wore a "Dorothy Hamil" haircut and dressed so well.  I had so many clothes.  Also, Baker's shoe stores...another icon.   I still love my high heels and do wear them to work with a pencil skirt on meeting days.  Other than that, jeans and workout clothes ha!  I should have saved some of those blazers...they really never went out of style.

I actually said "wow" out loud when I read Baker's. What a blast from the past. I bought my first pair of work pumps from there after I graduated college. Thus the start of my "pump toes" - toes jammed in heels 40 hours a week.

Were they the store that had dyables - they'd dye satin pumps to match bridesmaids dresses?

@scatcat  YES!!! Omg I probably had 6 pairs of shoes dyed to match the bridesmaids dresses...they had the best shoes  👠

Unless you are from the New England area, you might not have heard of Spags in Shrewsbury Massachusetts. Interesting store, loved going there growing up and into my adult years.

@conIt

OMG Spags! I remember.

My father loved that store. He worked out in the western part of MA in the mid 70s and used to bring home all kinds of great deals and fun stuff for us kids. What a blast from the past.

One of my favorite stores that closed is Bombay Company which always had something I would buy...Pier 1 is very similar to it...both were great stores!

Also, Marshall Fields & Carson,Pirie Scott, both Chicago stores that have closed were just the best with wonderful Customer Service!
I really miss all of the good old stores that have closed over the years...

Zayre's already had a chain of Hit Or Miss stores which the early days were small footprint shops with racks of random brands and styles of garments just arranged by category - Tops, Sweaters, Pants etc. just like TJX stores today."

Didn't know that about Zayre Corp. Thanks! I just assumed that Ames bought out Zayres when they moved into that space.

I remember Hit or Miss as well. It really was a hit or miss. LOL Didn't know it as part of Zayres though. Interesting.

There are so many --- I can't even just list one.  Bon-Ton, Ross, Tuesday Morning, my local Macy's, my local Penney's, Sears, Fashion Bug, Murphy's, Ben Franklin, K-Mart, Kauffman's, National Record Mart, Fox Moore (sp).  Many, many more I can't think of right now.  There's not much left, really!

Same here!  I remember Bakers Shoes and had many dyed to match shoes for dances, weddings, etc....

We lost Penney's and Shopko.  All that is left is some junior women's store and Walmart.
