Re: What is on your Turkey Day menu?

Hello, again, @momtochloe.   I was in Publix today looking out for a tiny turkey, fresh, organic, etc.

And there was a tiny one, fresh, and the person putting them out in the meat section told me that this was their only shipment and the small ones go first.

So I have the turkey already and may hold "Thanksgiving" on Sunday.  I am not sure about a bird lasting that long in the fridge, especially my fridge, which is not the best.

Why not make Thanksgiving a "moveable feast"?  I can still have my favorite food thing on Thurs, the turkey soup, and I have a friend lined up for Sunday dinner.  Home run.  I always have lots of veggies.  I may or may not go out to buy dessert.  Turkey has that tryptophan (sp?) and it's better than dessert for a happy mood after dinner.

Oh @Burnsite this is so funny as I was at the store earlier today and they had no small turkey breasts at all.  I will hit a couple more stores but this is the first time they had nothing close to the size I would like.  I think you are smart to have your Thanksgiving on Sunday especially since it's a fresh, organic breast.  I bet it will be delicious, I can already smell it!

On the upside I found out today that Trader Joe's has an already cooked boneless breast for $8.99 plus they always have their fresh 1/4 turkey breast so they are my backstop but I was hoping for more leftovers for sandwiches.

Thank you so much for thinking of me and letting me know, it really made my day! . . . Smiley Happy

Re: What is on your Turkey Day menu?

My son and I are just tired of turkey.  (It will be just us and maybe the 11 yr old granddaughter).  I am making a chicken pot pie with lots of veggies in it, Cool Whip fruit salad and pumpkin pie with whipped topping.  I may slip in a chocolate refrigerator pie too.

I just read your post about your oven being broken.  About two years ago we all had a horrible virus for Thanksgiving and were too sick to cook, so we pre-ordered the entire meal at Mollie Stone's.

Safeway also makes an entire Thanksgiving dinner, if you're interested.

Thanks, @Noel7.  I don't have the money for that.  This year Thanksgiving will just be another day.

Re: What is on your Turkey Day menu?

We had our Thanksgiving Sunday.(in Indiana, a state none of us reside in)  We (our son & family and 2 nephews & families) were all there for a football game.  Sunday I was up at the crack of dawn and made

3 turkey breasts ( lots of gravy made with Williams Sonoma starter)

mashed (red) potatoes

white sweet potatoes

green beans almondine

corn

(my) stuffing

(homemade) cranberry sauce

Grands roll

Lots of Prosecco

Saturday night I made 2 apple and 2 pumpkin pies.

Re: What is on your Turkey Day menu?

We're smoking a turkey

cornbread dressing with sausage, fennel and pears

baked sweet potatoes with shallot pecan butter

mashed potatoes

gravy

peas

grilled asparagus

salad

parker house rolls

cranberry ginger relish

I'm also making a pecan pie

I also have a half ham in the fridge

So far I only have the cranberry relish, shallot butter and pie crusts made. Tomorrow I cook my cornbread. I may or may not do my rolls tomorrow. I'm picky and like everything freshly made.
