@ECBG, thank you sooooo very much for taking the time to share these recipes. Ohhhhh, I'm definitely making that first one! It's got lots of good things in it including the chili sauce. YUM! And really, it's not that hard to make. Speaking of hard, I just finished making Ina Garten's Beef Bourguignon. Hubby had surgery Friday and this was his request. I hadn't made it in forever and thought I'd whup it right out. Turned out to be more involved then I remembered and I AM POOPED! I had arthroscopic knee surgery a month ago so I'm not 100% yet....uh, not even close! Anyway, I gotter done and I know he will enjoy it.

Thanks again for sharing your recipes. I wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving. Hope your meal turns out delicious in every way.

@pupwhipped good thoughts and prayers to you and your DH that you both heal quickly and are able to enjoy the upcoming holiday season to it's fullest . . . be well!

@momtochloe, thanks so much. My knee surgery has been a B.I.T.C.H! But just today I'm beginning to feel like it might all work out. I've been regretting having the surgery all along. But now, I'm feeling more optimistic...thank goodness!

Best to you, too!

Corn Souffle

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

2 Cans high quality Whole Kernel corn, drained

2 cans cream style corn

4 Tbsp. sugar (may be slightly decreased)

4 Tbsp plain flour

4 Tbsp Whipping cream or half and half

4 eggs, beaten

Combine all ingredients

Pour into buttered 3 qt baking dish

Bake 1-1 1/2 hours until golden

Doubles well with a 4 qt baker.

OH, Oh, I'm gonna try this one, too, @ECBG. I've always done the corn casserole with the Jiffy Mix and sour cream, etc. It will be nice to have something different for a change.

Thanks again!

I couldn't agree more @pupwhipped. this is so on the menu for Thanksgiving . . . thank you so much @ECBG!

@pupwhippedLike this one one because there's less starch.  We always have enough starch, LOL!!!

Re: What is on your Turkey Day menu?

We're going to be having:

Bone-in turkey breast

Turkey gravy

Mashed potatoes

Stuffing

Cranberry Sauce

Corn

Biscuits

Pumpkin Pie with either Whipped Cream/Topping

I decided to cook this year.

The past few years we have had a small turkey dinner that we had ordered from one of our local supermarkets. It was amazing.

They have a catering dept., and at the holidays they offer different dinners that you can choose from, like either turkey, ham or prime rib for their customers.

However, I felt like making a smaller turkey dinner for us this year, so that we would have a larger amount of leftovers with the turkey breast, especially.

I used to go all out and make a smaller-sized whole turkey for us, and then many sides to go with it, including sweet potato casserole and green bean casserole, along with everything else that I listed above. We would have leftovers for awhile afterwards.

I do like to cook. However it became too much at the holidays with the health issues that I have to deal with, so I started to scale back and just do a smaller turkey breast and I started to limit the sides that I would make, too.

With this turkey breast, I can also freeze the breast bone and some of the meat to make soup with it later, too. Smiley Happy

Re: What is on your Turkey Day menu?

There is just the two of us, and I invite over my elderly bachelor uncle.  I would love to dine out, but that is not on my DH's agenda.

Small Fresh Bone In Turkey Breast (from the turkey farm down the road)

Homemade Stuffing

Mashed Potatoes

Gravy (made by the turkey farm down the road)

Super Sweet Corn

Cranberry Sauce

Coconut Cream Pie

I may add rolls and roasted brussel sprouts.

Re: What is on your Turkey Day menu?

Whatever we order at the restaurant! lol. Probably turkey, PA Dutch potato filling, some vegetable, soup, salad, bread, an appetizer and pumpkin pie. (All for 12 dollars each!).

My kids (and grandkids) go to their dads family Thanksgiving so my husband and I go to a movie and out to eat. Much easier, and no eating more than 1 helping!

I don't cook for any holidays anymore except sometimes on Christmas Eve and that's getting tougher now since my daughter, and 2 granddaughters are vegetarian and 1 granddaughter is vegan. We may go to my daughters this Christmas Eve (then its to the in laws Christmas day!).

I can honestly say I do NOT miss cooking big dinners. Too much work for me and my bad back! I will bake Christmas cookies though with my 1 granddaughter (who likes to bake) helping!.

Re: What is on your Turkey Day menu?

[ Edited ]

I will buy a tiny turkey and roast it with some winter vegetables.  Some years I have someone over and some years I don't but either way I like the way the house smells when a turkey is roasting. If I don't have guests, I will set up the Christmas tree.

This year I am making my mother's from scratch stuffing, which invoves Vermont common crackers and Mrs. Bells (is that the sage. etc, mixture?), and attempt to make her pan gravy.  For I long time I skipped the gravy and now I forget how she did it.

I try not to eat desserts, but I may weaken and bake some molasses cookies.

The tiny turkey will go into the soup pot the next day.  Turkey soup is even nicer than roast turkey.

Re: What is on your Turkey Day menu?

I was watching the Holida Baking Championship program last night on Food Network.  One of the contestants made a Sawdust pie.  It looked so good.  I might try that this year.

It has coconut, chocolate chips, graham cracker crumbs, and pecans...

Re: What is on your Turkey Day menu?

* Grilled turkey (hubby will do this)

* Mashed potatoes

* Stuffing (dressing) with sausage

* Gravy

* Garlic green beans

* Mashed sweet potatoes

* Homemade cranberry sauce

* Sweet gherkin pickles and black olives (a nostalgic treat for me -- nobody else eats them!)

* Haven't yet decided on dessert -- usually homemade pumpkin pie and whipped cream for me and an alternative for everyone else (they don't like pumpkin pie, but I am a traditionalist)

My daughter is dairy and gluten free, so I will be making smaller duplicates of a few of these dishes so that she can have them (for example, a small casserole of stuffing made with gluten free bread and no butter, mashed potatoes without milk and butter, etc.).

I love reading these types of things! It's always so interesting to see what others consider traditional or essential for meals like this. (For example, we never have rolls/bread or salad with our Thanksgiving meal.)

Re: What is on your Turkey Day menu?

We never have salad either.

We eat salad regularly with dinner; but for some reason, nobody eats the salad on Thanksgiving.  LOL
