What is considered an "essential business" these days?

I guess I need to re think my priorities.  Schools shut down, churches shut down, many small businesses are shut down, and restaurants only surviving because they are offering take outs.

But, the Merle Norman store in my little town is wide open for business.  An essential?

I can't help but wonder if they will also apply for the small business relief check.

Wow, I see nothing essential about Merle Norman. I wonder what criteria they use that makes them essential.

I'm not sure if our Merle Norman is open.  Essential?  I think not.

@LIndaMJ   I didn't think so either, but I guess some do.

[ Edited ]

They consider tanning salons and tattoo parlors around here as "essential" and are still open for business.

@Georgiagrama  According to their website, Merle Norman is producing a WHO-approved hand sanitizer.  Perhaps that gave them a waiver to stay open.  You have to call before going in though. It's still strange though; I would have thought they could operate online only.

It probably varies state to state.  Check your Dept of Health website.

I am disturbed that liquor stores are considered to be "essential" in my area. If one requires alcoholic drinks, beer and wine are available online and through other sources. I guess the easy availability of hard liquor, at least in this area, will prevent a lot of alcoholics from the DT's, not infrequent after an abrupt end to drinking. No need to  overcrowd the already stressed hospitals.
