There was a poster who bought new SQ a few months back and I wonder how that is working out.
Speed Queen lovers, can you let us know what year you purchased? I am really wanting to know if users of machines made in last few years are still as pleased as owners of older machines. I am another individual trying to prepare for purchase.

Everyone is going to have a different opinion based on experience.
My high-priced Maytag Neptune washer (HE front loader) died at 7 years and was the subject of a class-action lawsuit because of the continual problems with mold. Unfortunately, I found out about the lawsuit too late to file. We also had a Maytag dishwasher that didn't dispense rinse aid after the first year (out of warranty!) and the repairman couldn't figure out why, so we lived with it until that died at 6 years. You couldn't pay me to buy another Maytag.
Every time I saw that stupid ad about the "lonely Maytag repairman", I'd shout "Well, you can come fix my lousy machines!"
I replaced both of those appliances with Bosch (the brand I had while living in England). Washing machine is now 13 years old; dishwasher is 14 years old.
No repairs or problems with either one. Knock on wood!

For me, personally, it has been LG. Wonderful machines!

Speed Queen. We bought one to replace a pricey Fisher Paykel (sp) that was nothing but trouble. Tons of bells and whistles I never used. Got a fairly basic Speed Queen after that and love it.

@Sugipine wrote:I've got a super-old Maytag that just won't die. But when it does I'll be looking at Amana's washer/dryer set. I've been eyeing the reviews for a couple of years now and they have been top-rated so far. Amana is a no-frills subdivision of Whirlpool. Their washer/dryer set has basic operation features which I like...also a deep-water setting.
Basic and simple!
Thank you for the info @Sugipine . I know Speed Queen is the best made but I want something simple like I had with my nearly twenty year old Whirlpool set. I did not realize Amana was basically a Whirlpool product. I only do four loads a week on average so I don't want something expensive. Those machines that you can operate from your smart phone are totally out of my realm.

I used to buy based on higher end, brand, and reputation. The last time, I went for a less expensive version of a fairly well known brand. It's been great, no problems at all.

I am so surprised about this! My Fisher&Paykel washer is 18 years old and has never had one problem. It was the basic model, though. When it goes, I will likely buy another one of them or perhaps a Speed Queen. The locally-owned store where I will purchase carries both brands.
Like another person stated, our opinions are going to be so varied based on our personal experiences. I belong to a lot of Facebook groups dealing with home decorating, maintenance, etc. Over and over again, people warn against buying LG or Samsung washers and dryers.

Whirlpool Corp. sells products under a wide variety of brands such as Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, and Consul.
Electrolux Established in Sweden, the Electrolux company currently owns Frigidaire, Tappan, Kelvinator and Gibson appliance brands.
General Electric (GE) The appliances division of GE was purchased by the Chinese-owned Haier company in 2016. Four years prior, the same company acquired the New Zealand appliance maker, Fisher & Paykel. When the Haier company acquired GE, they wisely retained the right to use GE brand names through 2056. Today, Haier manufactures GE, Hotpoint, Cafe, Profile, and Monogram branded household appliances.
Samsung The Korean company makes a number of Samsung branded ‘smart’ household appliances, including cooktops, refrigerators, wall ovens, microwave ovens, and laundry machines, as well. In the summer of 2016, Samsung acquired the Dacor brand of American-made luxury appliances.
LG Corporation, formerly Lucky-Goldstar, is a South Korean multinational conglomerate founded by Koo In-hwoi and managed by successive generations of his family. Today, LG manufactures a variety of appliances for the kitchen, laundry, and other household uses.
LG stands for “Lucky-Goldstar”, not “Life’s Good”. Rak-Hui (Lucky) Chemical and GoldStar merged in 1958 to become Lucky-Goldstar, which would later rebrand to “LG” in 1995. “Life’s Good” is LG’s slogan, developed by the Australian branch of LG and then adopted globally. It represents LG’s goal of making life easier with people-friendly technology.

@PilatesLover : When my washer died early in Pandemic we bought a Whirlpool. It does within a year, even after repairman attempted to repair. Lowes let us exchange it for a Maytag, which died within a year. After 2 repair attempts ( including replacing Motherboard) Lowes bought us a new machine ( Maytag Corp won't replace until repairman has made 3 attempts). My current machine is a GE with no electric computer (to my knowledge; the last two talked to the factory) and it, so far, reminds me of my old trusty Kenmores. Wish me luck!Thank God I did purchase an extended warranty (3 machines in 3 years).
