Look at a Whirlpool commercial washer; no bells and whistles, full fill on all basic cycles, one normal cycle with medium fill, delicate cycle, and pretty perfect for my needs.
Best washer I've had since the Amana washer I bought 22 years ago that is still going strong in my basement, altho it leaks and sounds like a plane ready for take off.

Whirlpool and Maytag are the same company now I think. I always had a Maytag and have purchased 2 in the past 3 years of the same model for my 2 separate houses. My sister also purchased the ones I have. So far have been satisfied, large tub and deep water wash choice. I could not stand the low water wash and rinse on many models. This gives you a choice.

My 7 year old Speed Queen conked out due to a failure of the electronics. Mechanically it was still fine and had never needed a repair of any type. It had a 5 year warranty at the time of purchase. I was so disappointed and surprised -- so was the repairman. Replacement part would be at least $500 with only 90-day guarantee, so I opted to buy a new Speed Queen that is offered with a 7 year warranty. We'll see how that one holds up. Even machines with knobs and dials have some type of electronics in them now -- a chip here, a chip there.

I've been eyeing the reviews for a couple of years now and they have been top-rated so far. Amana is a no-frills subdivision of Whirlpool. Their washer/dryer set has basic operation features which I like...also a deep-water setting.
Basic and simple!
I will keep this in mind. I have a whirlpool set that will not die which I have had for over 21+years.
I like simple and to the point directions. My brother and SIL have a set that you need an engineering degree to operate. No thank you.
@icezeus I asked my repair what machine he would recommend and he said one with two knobs.

@vermint wrote:After having only GE's for 47 years...and being pleased with them all..I just bought an LG front-loader a week ago. The reason? It would have taken a month, or more, to get a new GE, similar to what I had, and the LG was available for immediate delivery. I couldn't go a month or more without a washing machine so LG it was. So far, so good.
I don't expect any newer machines to last but 5-10 years. Seems like they all have "computers" in them, and after about 5 years that part isn't available any longer.
@vermint Our LG washer and dryer are ten years old. So far I only had one minor problem and it's been very reliable and has held up well.

I have a Samsung fridge that is junk after two years....no way would I buy anything Samsung.
I have a 20 year old Whirlpool frontload washer and dryer still going strong. I would go with another one.
DS bought a Kenmore Washer last year...it has already quit twice... the Kenmore brand was sold but i think a foreign company that makes many of the other ones just puts the Kenmore label on it now.
Even another Whirlpool may not be as good as your original....they sure don't make them like they used to...I doubt any new appliance will last 29 years now.
