What is one memory from childhood that when you think about it, makes you smile?
I have two.
One is when my dad and I went to Marine World, when it was in Redwood City, Ca before it moved to Vallejo, Ca. It was a small animal park then, and this was in the late 70's or very early 80's, so times were different then.
I got to ride on an elephant, and a camel, saw an orca show, and other shows.
I just remember having fun with my dad that day.
the second one is when we lived in Sacramento. We lived close to the Southern Pacific railyard, where my dad worked.
One summer day when I was about 11 or so, I decided to walk to Old Town, which was only a mile or two away.
I poked around the stores and shops, before I decided to walk to the Capital, which was about two miles away.
I walked up the steps and in the building. I meandered through the halls. Not one adult stopped me to ask me what I was doing there, or to ask me if I was lost, or where my mom and/or dad were. Times were different then. The public could just walk inside the Capital, no big deal.
Back then, I thought nothing of walking a few miles. Now? HA-ha!
So, what are some memories from your childhood that makes you smile?

For me picking one is almost impossible. I have so many great childhood and teen memories. I guess if I had to pick one it would be the friends I have made and still have after 65 years and all the fun we have shared.

@Anonymous032819 I know Marine World! The first time I went there, it was in Redwood City, I went in the mid 80s when I was a kid. Then I remember in the summer of 1987 it moved to Vallejo...back in the days before there were real rides. Memories.
Now I think it's called Discovery Kingdom.

Like spider woman, I am fortunate to have many happy memories! The two that stand out the most are summer days spent at my grandmother's lake house in Upstate New York and the many family trips my parents took us on, including the World's Fair in the early '60's in NYC.

When our family used to go to Hershey Amusement Park in Hershey, PA. In those days you were also able to tour the Hershey Chocolate Plant. I remember at the end of the tour they used to give you Hershey Bars and Hershey Kisses.
I always loved going into Hershey and seeing the Hershey Kisses street-lights. As soon as you arrived in town you could smell that wonderful chocolate scent.
We lived several hours away in western PA but always made a trip to Hershey at least once or twice year.

My mother's side of the family is very small. We would all get together at our house every Christmas Eve and exchange presents. It was more than just Christmas Eve. I loved shopping and wrapping all my presents the weeks before Christmas. I think of those times often and wish I could go back.

I was around 2 or 3 yrs old. I did something really bad (I forgot what that was), so I ran away from home to avoid the beating.
I ran out the back door & hid under the house (my idea of running away). I heard the police sirens in front of the house & the police talking to my parents in the back kitchen. I was so excited, I climbed from under the house, ran down the alley to the street I lived on, walked up to a policemen & asked if he could take me for a ride.
I remember the above as if it happened yesterday. Always brought a smile to my face cause I don't remember the "aftermath."
