Re: What is Dr. Oz thinking?

That show makes me paranoid and worried. I don't watch.

Re: What is Dr. Oz thinking?

I'd really like to know if Dr. Oz supported treatment by way of angels and spirits. Also, psychics.

I don't understand why he would have psychics on his show. It could be seen as endorsing them, and I know of no studies showing medical help from psychics.

I don't know if he said one can be helped medically from psychics. I usually don't pay too much attention to him when he speaks, but I doubt he would have actually stated "treatment by angels and spirits."

I can only re-explain it again by talking about spirits, angels, psychics as an alternative health practice as opposed to a medical treatment. If a person believes that angels exist and they are here to guide us towards our destiny and watch over us, there is a certain peace that comes with that. The same with psychics. If you see the reactions of people who are told by psychics that their loved ones are communicating this or that, these people can experience the peace of closure or the peace of knowing that their loved ones are watching over them. It's not medical treatment, per se, so much as a healing force.

I think Oz is just trying to open people's minds to the possibility that these things exist and that these alternative avenues to healing can just help us emotionally and, perhaps, physically too. That's the best I can explain it.

Re: What is Dr. Oz thinking?

He had the audience mold with clay the shape of their poop last week in a show...... This segment went on for about 10 minutes talking about how everyone's poop looked in clay..... I almost wonder if he does this subject because it was a favorite subject of the Great Queen Oprah..... she loved taking about poop and her Va Jay Jay.....

Hi focksie,

I get stuck with this comment:

"I can only re-explain it again by talking about spirits, angels, psychics as an alternative health practice as opposed to a medical treatment."

I agree that many things in life are a source of calming which can help with relaxation and reducing stress. We could include a walk on the beach, watching the waves (works for me), getting a facial, listening to music, but I would not call them an alternative health practice.

You and I can agree to disagree there, but if that is what Dr. Oz was suggesting, I consider that a serious mistake on his part. There are always people out in TVLand that will take it to mean they don't have to see an MD, they just have to get in touch with a psychic or charlatan of some sort.

Hi NoelSeven, I'm not the greatest at expressing myself in writing, but let me replace the following in the bolded sentence:

"I can only re-explain it again by talking about spirits, angels, psychics as an (strike "alternative health practice" and replace with) an alternative avenue towards wellness as opposed to a medical treatment."...

...because anything that reduces stress (walk on the beach, etc.) is helping a person achieve wellness.

I certainly don't think Oz was suggesting that people use psychics in lieu of doctors for their ailments. That would be irresponsible and just plain stupid. I didn't watch the entire segment - only saw a snippet - but I think he was just suggesting that some people can de-stress by achieving closure, or hope, or peace of mind via for example, a psychic, and this can lead a person down the wellness path and help them to become whole again.

Any better? {#emotions_dlg.blush}

It sounds like he's gone off the deep end, but then, anything for ratings. Does he actually BELIEVE this stuff?

I've never seen his show but I assumed it was about medicine and basic health.

No?

Yes, plus mind & spirit because they all work together. I'm neither condoning nor condemning him or his show, but I think this thread was started just as another bashing opportunity.

Why are you so invested in a tee vee person that you can get riled up over what you perceive as bashing?

This is the internet--that's what people do--give their opinions.

As one of Oprah's spin offs, I'm not surprised at all. And money can be a POWERFUL influence, even causing talented people to forsake their true calling. Who knows, maybe he's supporting poor relatives? It's been known to happen.
