Re: What has your recent experience been with Uber or Lyft?

I’ve used both Uber and Lyft and they were both excellent.

I have used Uber alone and with family, no complaints.  DS & DIL and most of their friends  use it whenever they go to dinner locally with friends or parties when wine is involed.  You can have a family member track you with Uber or talk on your phone with them if you are concerned with your safety.

@reiki604 @Recently? Do drivers care if you use your credit card on file?

I haven't used either one, but I don't understand why the Uber driver would ask how much the rider wants to pay. I thought costs were already determined by miles and peak times. Unless that means tipping, which is another issue.

@teganslaw    Re-read the post to which you're referring.  You misinterpreted it.

DS has used Uber, just 1 no show. Ride booked and driver accepted but then didn't show. He then called for a taxi. Short ride, 10 miles.

Uber does offer a prepaid card, DS keeps a few bucks on it on the app.

I've also used a car service to give him a ride home from an event.

@Mindy D  I think you should ask for responses from your area. The experience from someone living in the Pacific Northwest or Maine might be entirely different from someone living in South Beach or New Orleans.

My son uses Uber a lot. He’s never had a bad experience.

@teganslaw @Not how much; how...the method of payment. Some of them want cash in hand.

We've used Uber on vacation, and never had a problem.  My kids use Uber frequently.

Just seems like reading reviews is a waste of time for something like Uber.  Everyone is going to have a different experience.

My understanding is Uber is meant to be a cashless system.  I believe cash is only available in selected markets.
