Re: What has some value these days?

With regard to collectibles, I don't know other than prized pieces of art which would be the wrong decision for me since I have no background knowledge of this area and I certainly don't have the $$ needed for it.

Since '08 gold has been a good investment but only if you'd already had it in your possession before that. Hindsight.

Would not buy Real Estate right now since the market is going down and I'd wait for it to get much lower.  Lots of folks wouldn't consider RE a collectible but I would differ with that and say, to some it likely is.

My husband collects MANY things for many, many years.  His comic book collection has done well.  And surprisingly, his Harry Potter MIB (mint in box/never opened) Legos.

Real estate? Have you talked to any landlords lately?

For me things of value are good health. feeling safe, sharing good times with friends and family, and being financially secure. Don't care about material things.

Re: What has some value these days?

@RetRN Yes, you're right that some landlords have struggled because their tenants have struggled.  And it would've been difficult to predict the pandemic coming and its effects on the economy.  I can't imagine this challenge, especially for landlords who are still paying off their RE investments and need the rental income to meet those monthly payments.

I will say, tho, that there is more to the real estate pie than residential properties.  And just as with anything else, you have to do your research.  Admittedly, even with the best advice and research, there is some luck involved in most investing.

The OP is referring to another thread ‘Collectibles That Are Probably Worthless’.

People were discussing their collections of what was thought to increase in value but ended up not doing so. Beanie Babies, Crystal, Fabrege’ etc.

OP is trying to ask if there are collectibles that did end up increasing in value. (I think)

OP not everyone reads every thread so when you ask a vague question you're going to get answers like that. No need to get irritated.

I might have 1 or 2 things that may be valuable, money wise---and then the rest of my stuff is valuable just to me---I like it and enjoy them. Right now it is packed away as I am in an apartment with no room. My photos are very valuable to me and my memories are too---

I don't think real estate is always a valuable thing to have.  It required cost (taxes, repairs, keeping people off it and getting hurt to sue you, neighborhood goes down etc.)

Real estate is an asset that costs you to have it many times.  Land?  Just because it's land doesn't mean it is worth much or ever will be.  And it often takes forever to sell it.

Come to think of it the only things I have "collected" for over 20 years are the cards, notes and drawings made by and sent to me by my DS, DDIL and grandchildren. Have them sorted in binders and love to browse through them. To me they are priceless.
