Currently I have flat and I've scrubbed off the paint due to flat not being cleanable. This area is the main area (foyer and stairwells) for everyone who comes into the house as well as going up or down to the most used areas.
I'm leaning towards satin. TIA

You might consider eggshell or semi-gloss.
Also there are brands of paint that claim to be washable.
Unfortunately none are self-cleaning! There will always be marks to remove.

Pick the paint that will clean the easiest without coming off when scrubbing.... I'd ask the professional in the paint Dept which one they recommend (they're often named differently).
Good luck!

BTW, my favorite has always been Semi-Gloss....

I love satin. I use Benjamin Moore, but there are other good companies that make a nice satin.
I started using it when the kids were little, and have continued to use it.

I'd use eggshell or semi-gloss.

Thanks everyone. The trim is done in semi-gloss and the brand the designer used (all done by the previous owner) is Valspar. LOVE the colors so I'll get them again...the trim is GLOSSY. I was surprised to see it was a semi-gloss due to the shine....not sure I want THAT much shine on the walls. They claim to have used it in the bathrooms as well but, I'm telling you there is NO gloss in those rooms and the paint scrubbed off just like the flat.
Makes you wonder, you know?

I think we need to look at this at a different angle.
Why is this area getting so knarly in the first place?
I watch these Lowe/Home Depot/Benjamin Moore commercials
where the mother does a smile & shoulder shrug to imply
'what can I do?' when she sees her little one drawing on the walls.
She grabs a water bucket & is thankful she has cleanable paint.
And all is happy....<scene>
Oh....hellllllllz no.
Our fannies would've been tanned if we would've even touched the painted walls when we were growing up! Yes, today's technology has afforded us the washable walls, but the behavior still needs to be old school.
'You kids stop touching the walls!'
