What exactly does AS IS mean especially re fashion

Once in a while I come across an item that is listed as "as is". I was wondering if that means it is returned damaged or missing parts or what.

I'm guessing it also means "no returns" accepted. I'd avoid it. For example, I've seen what appears to be a nice item on E-Bay, only to see in the description that there are marks or flaws. Kind of like the old IRREGULAR items sold in years past. Your call of course.

@hennypenny

RE As is...

This product may be a customer return, vendor sample, discontinued inventory, or on-air display and is not in its originally manufactured condition. It may not be new. In some instances, these items are repackaged by QVC. Accordingly, the manufacturer may not honor any original warranty. However, QVC's standard return policy still applies. A card will be included in your package explaining these points in greater detail.

IMO, it means you should NOT pay for the item + shipping to purchase something that is not perfect, sight unseen.

Let them sell it in one of their outlet stores.

There's a huge chance you will pay additional money to send the darn thing back, and who wants to waste money?

Re: What exactly does AS IS mean especially re fashion

I have never ordered an AS IS item, but I've read where many posters have and are well-pleased with their items, especially at the significantly reduced prices. Yes, you still have full return rights on AS IS, and if you call CS and tell them the item was defective, you will not be charged return shipping.

Just recently, I paid full price for a top. When it arrived, I noted that it had a square label on the clear plastic wrap instead of a rectangular label which denotes new. The item smelled of perfume. I was not happy, that item should have been an AS IS.

I was skeptical of the "As is" items, too.  However, I have tried a few and been more than happy with the purchases as well as the $ savings.

@StylishLadyReturns ARE accepted on as is at QVC, and I'm with you that I'd avoid buying anywhere except locally if something "as is" were not returnable.

I've ordered many clothing items from the as is section.  I haven't received anything that was damaged.  If you do, it's sent back free of charge just like any other product.

I believe AS IS items have the same return policy as regular items. I heard somewhere a long time ago that they were items worn by the models on the air.

Re: What exactly does AS IS mean especially re fashion

I have purchased from as is and had good luck with the items except for once I ordered a skirt and when it came it had obviously been worn - creases in the seat and it reeked of cigarette smoke. I called customer service but there wasn't another one in stock so I was going to return it but she offered me an additional $5 off - which was 20% of what I had paid - so I kept it because I really loved the color and it exactly matched a Mackie top I have.I have worn that skirt often and I'm so glad I kept it.
