What does "Have a nice one" really mean?

For some reason, that phrase always annoys me. It is usually said when you are finished paying a cashier, in a store, and about to leave. Are you supposed to fill in the blanks? Have a nice meal? Have a nice day? Have a nice life? I always have the impression that it is said with total lack of conviction or caring.

When a young, extremely bored looking cashier says it, in a monotone voice, it has no meaning to me at all. How about "Have a nice two", or "Have a nice three"? The next time that someone says that to me, I am going to look at them and ask them, "Have a nice what"? {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} {#emotions_dlg.w00t}
