I think 90 is old now. What do you think of as "old" now?

It depends on the person's health and how they are able to function. I have seen 60 year olds that walk and act like they are 90. On the other hand, I have seen people in their 90's with a pep in their step, a sparkle in their eye......a real zest for life.
Health, attitude, and frame of mind are key.

To me 'old' is when you are no longer, or having a lot of difficulty, taking care of yourself in all aspects of everyday living. That doesn't come with any particular number in years but it usually happens later in life in most cases. I'm 70 but I don't feel or look my age. '70' is just a number.

@tends2dogs Totally agree. Frame of mind goes a long way.

I am 66 and don't think of myself as old. I am fortunate to have great health. I still work as a nurse, teaching newer nurses. I see patient's with the nurses and it is clear that health is not tied to an age. I have patient's who are younger than me and in terrible shape.
Lifestyle, access to health care, and genetics affect one's health so much. As many of you know here, I advocate for people to take care of their health, get at least yearly check-ups and lab work. It is better to prevent a disease rather then try and treat it.
That being said, sometimes I feel that others see me as old. People sometimes try to place me in the old category, like I should go out to pasture and sit at home.
Not people I work with, but some of the young nurses coming out of school, think that they know everything and kind of poo, poo me.
They soon learn that I can spin circles around them in my nursing knowledge. Nothing does better for a nurse than 45 years of experience lol.
I know that I will not work forever, but I do like that my work engages and challenges my mind.
I have longevity in my family and while I don't desire to become dependent, I want to live the best life that I can.
So my answer, I do not think of someone as "old.". I look at the health and abilities of the person. That is what matters. Health and happiness are everything.

as others here have stated it does depend on the health of the person and if they are self independent , can still take care of themselves with no help . I always here 40 is the new 70 or 50 is the new 80 . People are living longer then former generations. like our grandparents I remember thinking they were so old when I was a teenager and they were in ther3 late 30's -40 ! Anyone over 30 was old to me
