This is terrible. Is there an agency that can help with the meals?

I don't understand why some children aren't fed on the weekends......
Aren't there agencies and/or social workers who can give them food stamps or have food delvered to the children by volunteers?
Many seniors have these options. Why not the children?
Also, isn't there some sort of law re: parents (illegally) not caring for their children, not feeding them, not giving them medical attention, etc. ...........
Someone should start up some sort of food bank or cafeteria services for the youngsters on the weekends.
Run by volunteers. There are many potential volunteers who are waiting to be of service to the children.

The schools here have been on a 4 day week for several years. The only ones complaining are the ones that use the schools for babysitting.

This is already happening. Many schools give out snack packs on Fridays and during thd week during school vacations. Hard to believe with all our abundance, but just like old people who have a hard time buying and preparing nutritious foods, others also have the problem. Its compounded when those people also have mouths to feed.

It's bad that some children aren't fed on weekends. Why can't parents provide for their children? Cost of food, falling on hard times, unable to afford the children they have or just not caring?
Maybe the economy has much to do with children being undernourished, but there are also certain people who were never meant to be parents.
I'm not sure about a four day school week. Maybe it wouldn't make any difference. I'm not involved with the schools, so have no issue with that.

I'm a retired teacher. I don't know if it's good or not. I just want to say that, IMO, one of the reasons schools fail is because they are expected to be so many more things than educating to so many. It's just not feasible considering the many social dilemmas that you are confronted with and expected to handle.

As a teacher in elementary for 35 years, I feel the need to comment on this topic. The school is a refuge for many children, not just those in poverty. Many children aren't shown love and attention at home and so they dread time away from school. In the classroom they feel valued and respected. School is a beautiful place where they can gain self esteem and a sense of worth. As for the shorter week, it is hard for the kids to remember what was taught after 3 days away from school. Remote learning during covid was a real setback. So much was lost . The longer school day was not working either. The students lose interest and aren't attentive as the days go on and on. We need to give the students a good foundation and regain our status in the world.

In most districts doing the four-day workweek, the teachers will still work five days. The fifth day will be planning and other incessant meetings. I hate the way our country has been showing such little regard in the treatment of our children. It takes quality, classical education for our children to become productive citizens. Seems to be an outdated idea now. The students who have a day off each week and are middle school age worry me the most. Still too young to be left home alone IMO and too old to be in daycare...and the parents have to go to work, what becomes of them?

Well I guess parents would agree if the schools would provide some type of day care on the off day. When kids do not go to school parents scramble to find someone to watch them. Schools seem to think they can change things without taking the hardship it will cause working parents.
