Recently I was in a supermarket and was gettng 2 bottles of soda. I was afraid the flimsy bag would break under their weight so I asked the young man (20s) to please double bag them for me.
I paid the cashier and turned to take my bag from the young man and he had indeed double bagged my soda.
One bottle in one bag and another bottle in another bag.
I think we should go to a two or three day school week!

I think immigration has put an extra hardship on successful teaching. Many non-English speaking children have to slow the class down. This must really be a hardship on teacher and students.

Makes total sense since the dumbing down of America is a reality. My choice would be to have one month off in the summer and school in session the rest of the year.

That is a harsh statement. Some people wait for their kids to be in school to go back to work. Majority of people work is not an option. KIds are suppose to be in school so calling it babysitting is a disprespectful to teachers. For parents to find someone to watch their kids when there is no school can be quite expensive.

This is terrible. Is there an agency that can help with the meals?
I have to agree, for some kids school meals may be the only food they get for the day. Where I live all kids were gettig free lunches, when it came up for renewal our Gov. did not sign it. There are kids who are picked up from homeless shelters and taken to school, no one really knows this. We do have free lunches and breakfasts during the summer. Different sites where kids can go and eat no questions asked. Also I have total respect for social workers and teachers. If it were not for these people a lot of kids would not escape their situations. Teachers are mandated reporters. I doubt we will ever know just how many kids have teachers to thank for paying attention. I know teachers who keep extra snacks and fruit in their classroom to give kids through the day.
In answer to your question about agencies feeding kids, a lot of politicians would like to get rid of social programs. There is a great need for social programs.

I retired to look after all 4 of my grandchildren for many years.
My oldest just graduated and I am so happy I was able to spend that wonderful time with him.
Enjoy every minute of being with your grandchild. They remember so many of those special moments with you later down the road.
It is all worth it!
@Mersha being a grandma is a special and wonderful job! My 7 yo grandson spent kindergarten and 1st grade in virtual learning due to covid and I sat with him every day while his mom and dad worked and throughly enjoyed it. He is a very smart little boy and he has his own room at grandmas complete with his toy car collection. I'm sure he will remember the special moments and time spent with grandma and yes it's all worth it !
Being a grandma is a treasure. I have several friends and myself included help with our grandkids all the time, especially when they were in pre school. We were able to pick them up etc...working parents need a lot of support and grand parents are there to help

No it's the pay and teachers really have no control in the classroom, I don't think they are allowed to raise their voice at out of control kids. Lets not forget it is dangerous to be a teacher. Ask the teacher who was shot by a 6 yr old.

I agree with you. I worked as a teacher's assistant for four years and the major problem was unruly children. More time was spent trying to get the kids to pay attention than actual teaching. You almost have to sing and dance to keep a child's attention. The parents were no help either. I couldn't believe when parents would say "I tell Jim/Jane to do his/her homework but he/she doesn't want to do it". Who is the parent here?

A big fat no. IMO kids need the structure of a school day not to mention the actual learning that SHOULD be taking place.

I think that for young children, long school days are too tiring. The teachers, admins, etc., would probably like it but not the children--and isn't it for their sakes we're trying to make these changes?
