@pggoody  I'm really behind the times. Never thought about replacing anything if I've been sick. In thinking about it, I so seldom get sick that it's not entered my mind. It seems like a good idea to replace your tooth brush heads, though.

Toothbrush only.  I did get an eye infection about 10 years ago and threw away all my eye make-up.  I did not use any while the eye was on medication and healing but of course the products were used prior to my knowing about the infection so..........

Same here. I don't wear any makeup of any kind so that isn't even an issue for me.

Toothbrushes are simply bleached then heavily rinsed in boiling water. How wasteful to throw them away for simple cold/flu type germs. Some horrible strain of bacterial infection or something, I'd get more critical, but not for the usual illness things.

I'm not bleaching my toothbrush and then putting it in my mouth.  I don't care how rinsed it is.  I'm just not comfortable doing that.

Plus, it depends on what kind of toothbrush you have.  Wouldn't a simple plastic handled toothbrush melt in boiling water?  Do they withstand that?

I have a Violife toothbrush so I just pop the head off and replace it. They aren't that expensive either and it makes me feel better to do that.   If I had a sonic toothbrush with expensive heads, I would think twice about it.

I have a huge investment in lipsticks, so no, they don't get thrown out.  If I'm that sick I wouldn't feel like putting lipstick on anyway, but perhaps a balm for dry lips.  I'm of the opinion you can't "re-catch" the same thing over again.  Would some medical person chime in?  I might take a few swipes around the house with a Clorox wipe to protect other people, not myself.  We believe in flu shots.

In the same article where I read that you should wipe things down you use all the time, it said you cannot catch the same strain of a cold or flu twice.

They did say that it is possible to come down with another strain right after you start to get well so that is why people think they got the same cold or flu.

This. I'm not sharing my lipsticks with anyone else, so I have no reason to throw them out.

I only worry about disinfecting things I share with others. When I was visiting my parents and got sick there, I made sure I used hand sanitizer before I touched any cabinet/door pulls or anything else someone might touch after me. If I forgot to use sanitizer first, I came back around with Lysol or a disinfectant wipe and took care of it after I touched it.

Exactly.  I don't worry about lipsticks, gloves, lip balms, etc because I don't share those things.

The only reason I toss my toothbrush is it just makes me feel better after I've been ill.  But there have been times I've not done it.
