What do you put in your flowers????

So, every week I buy fresh flowers for the vases around the house. Usually mini-carnations or whatever looks fresh.... Sometimes I'll put in the little packet that comes along with them, and sometimes I'll put a little bit of bleach. (about 2 Tblsp. diluted with water).....

I find that the bleach keeps the water clear and odorless but bleaches the stems. Otherwise, the flowers last almost two weeks. I'll just toss the ones that are droopy when i add the fresh ones the following week.

What do you put in with your flowers to keep them fresh????Smile

Yes, I forgot to mention that but I find that aspirin doesn't prolong the life of the flowers. Some people even put a penny in the water. {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

I do best with a little bleach.

I've been using flowers from the yard since spring but pretty soon will switch to grocery store varieties. If they are fresh when purchased, Peruvian lilies aka Alstroemeria last a good 2 weeks.

I also get the Alstromeria and I find that they really do last 2 weeks. This week I got some yellow and coral mini-carnations and mixed and matched them. When they open up, they look like a really large bunch. All the little buds open up......Smile

I just use the little packets unless I have some 7Up or Sprite on hand. I've heard that is good too.

This week . . . two dozen medium shade of pink roses from Costco. I don't buy them all the time but enjoy every so often. I think these were 12.98 or 14.98.

I buy fresh flowers every week from the grocery store and put a cap full of peroxide in the water when I change it. The flowers last sometimes up to two weeks. I take out the ones that aren't any good anymore and add the new ones every week.

I make floral arrangements all of the time. I find a fresh cut on a slant allows maximum hydration. I purchase my flowers from a florist wholesaler so they are fresh. I bought one of their hydration accelerators but I don't think it works as well as a fresh cut/water change every few days.

Some flowers will last weeks. Mums (spider mums are my favorite) carnations, alstromeria, tulips, freesia and dendro's.

I think that's the trick. My husband cuts them on the slant under the running water and immediately puts them in the vase which already has water in it. I'm going to try getting mums next time..... The one thing I don't do - is change the water very often. Thanks for the tip.....Smile

Someone told me to use Sprite but I never did.
