Yes, the Christmas music in the stores have me literally running in and out as fast as I can. Don't get me started about the radio stations that play Christmas music 24/7 from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day.

I am a senior and every year I get older I celebrate the holidays whether it is just my husband and I and the cats or it is with friends or family. I make the effort to decorate the house and make it joyful for the two of us and anyone who comes to visit. Yes, we have all spent holidays with people who are not pleasant. At my age, I just don’t do it anymore. I finally gave myself permission to take control
and spend it with people I care for and they care for me. I make an effort to plan a fun holiday whether it is at home or we go to someone else’s house. Everyone in the generation behind me is gone as well as some close friends and family younger than me. I miss all of them but have opened my heart to new ways to celebrate holidays. And you know what? We have had some fabulous unexpected experiences.

I wouldn’t call it hate but I dislike taking down the Christmas decorations. The house somehow seems so empty.

What a question...

I am really trying to think about something I don't like about the holidays but besides traffic at the malls and out on the roads I can't think of anything. That hasn't even been much of an issue since I do a lot of shopping way before Christmas (I am almost done as a matter of fact) and with online shopping. Maybe I will think of some after reading replies. I LOVE the holidays. I love everything about them and always have. I love having out of town guest stay at my house and having a houseful of people. When I was growing up our family was spread across the US and I just used to feel so envious of people with huge families who could spend it all together. It was just the 5 of us and compared to most of my friends, that was so small. Back in the 70s and 80s I don't know why but our families didn't fly to have holidays together like we do now. Maybe flying was a lot more expensive during the 70s or early 80s in comparison to todays prices and I know we have more time so maybe it was a combination of the two but I remember it just being my immediate family and I always wanted it to be a full house with 20 plus people. Now I have that and it really is a dream come true for me.

I don't hate anything - but what is hard for me:
Missing my mom. She LOVED Christmas and had strong traditions, which I still follow. Her parents owned a Christmas tree farm, and she died suddenly during the holidays when my children were very young. They opened gifts Christmas morning that she had bought for them, and I had wrapped Christmas Eve.
