Re: What do you do when you feel restless and have running thoughts?

[ Edited ]

I have to find some brain activity thst is interesting or fun to replace the merry-go-round of anxiety. What are you interested in? Focus on something you find interesting or fun.

1. Fortunately, I love history, so I relax with a history book or by doing online research into whatever topic or person I am interested in.

2. I play piano and harpsichord, so I can lose myself and my anxiety if I get into practicing a piece I find challenging.

3. Try coloring books for Adults! Look on Amazon. The idea sounded silly to me, I admit, but I was given a coloring book last Christmas, and lately I find I'm hooked! Coloring gets one into the moment, and I find it relaxing and therapeutic to play with colors and designs. A lesson in mindfulness. And I'm sure it.'s also an exercise in do-it-yourself color therapy.

4. I love to mow! Who knew? It relaxes me to mow the yard with our self-propelled push mower. Afterward, I'm too hot and tired to feel anxious.

5. Sudoku puzzles are a bit of an addiction for me. Again, it's relaxing to keep my mind occupied. I keep a puzzle book on my nightstand, and I've learned to flip on the light and do a few puzzles if I wake up in the middle of the night with one anxious thought after another going round and round in my head. My mother keeps cookbooks by her bed and reaches for one when she can't sleep. Just another positive way to replace the anxious feelings and thoughts with positive thoughts and images.

these are very basic ideas which I use. Hope they help you. You're not alone!
