Re: What do you do if you're tired, but can't sleep?

Adding to these good suggestions:

Yes, to the magnesium, preferably something put on, as opposed to put in.

Digestibles: cheese, turkey, peanuts or peanut butter for a late snack (tryptophan foods), chamomile tea...

Nighttime supplements: Vitamin D, magnesium, saffron, melatonin if needed.

Definitely no computer.

Using a compresion foot massager seems to help, sitting there in a darkened room.

I listen to a podcast on my phone to fall asleep.  I'm by myself so I I'm not bothering anybody.

If reading doesn't work then I try deep breathing and counting backwards from 100.....that usually does it

- If you can, start getting outside for some early morning sunlight and early evening (sunset) sunlight. Not to get a tan but to reset your circadian rhythm. It doesn’t require a lot of time; even 10 minutes is likely to help. I was shocked and delighted at what a difference it makes not only in how I sleep but in how I feel.

Waiting 90 minutes before having caffeine when you wake up in the morning helps, too. It allows our bodies to wake up on their own.

I don't fight it. I just don't sleep. I watch TV. I enjoy myself and don't get anxious about not sleeping.

I have had a meditation practice for many years and it works.  Could you look into one?  Calms the mind down.

I take two Equate P.M. sleep aid.  My dear aunt as always and still uses ironing in the middle of the night to sleep.  Still does even though she is in her 80's.  She woke up one night when she and my uncle were in their 40's and he was not in bed.  She found him watching t.v. at 2:00 a.m.  She said NO, you must do some ironing.

I never take a nap unless I can't keep my eyes open. If I do I'm going to have trouble sleeping that night.

I also like to listen to audio books I download on my phone.  You can get all of these from your library free.

If I'm not able to get to sleep or I wake up during the night I just turn on my audiobook and listen. You can set a timer for your audiobook that will go off either at the end of the chapter or 15, 30 minutes, etc. I NEVER HEAR THE BOOK  TURN OFF!  this works really well because you're laying down, you have your eyes closed, and it frees up your mind from solving all the world's problems by listening to a book.  I did this very thing last night and did not hear the audiobook stop.

I play two different versions of Candy Crush, lol!  Btw, it's easier to pass hard levels late at night for some reason.  I also find that if I take Motrin or Tylenol before bed, I sleep like a baby.  No, I don't do that very often at all.
