How about a donation to an animal charity. You get the tax deduction also. Win win.

A good bottle of wine.

I don't think the "token" bit is about money, I see it as "Been there, done that... already."

My immediate thought was a bottle of wine too, but my version of a good one would be more than a token lol.

@jaxs mom

How do you know what my version of a token wine is?

I live near THE Wine Country Woman Wink

Norhing I said implied anything about your version of token wine. I was saying that what I consider good wouldn't be what I consider to be a token gift. That is all.

I could be off track, but what came to mind for me with the term 'token gift' was just a gift given out of a sense of duty.  It wasn't chosen specifically for that person, knowing that it is something that person would like.  But it was just a 'well, I have to give a gift so I'll just snag something easy so I can say I did it' type of deal.

Is that messed up?

That sort of gift would be uppermost in my mind in situations similar to what the OP described, assuming I was not all that close to the hopefully-happy-second-time-around couple.

Something that says ... Yes, we are thinking about you and wishing you the best.  No, we are not spending a lot of money to express our feelings for your future happiness.  You are in our thoughts, prayers and not our wallet.

Does that sound a little rude?  Didn't mean it to, but that's my thoughts.

Well, a greeting card would fit that description!

A gift card to any of the national chain restaurants like Red Lobster or Chili's or Outback Steakhouse would be a token gift.

I would hit my "gift closet" to pull out one of those non-specific generic gifts that I have been hoarding for years,per instructions from the QVC hosts.
