My son works as a manager for Disney here in Florida. He was well trained, is well paid, and has great benefits. He was called back awhile ago. He likes it and they like him. Those who resist the Disney way of doing things, well, they may never like it.

@Puppy Lips   I, myself know several Disney employees personally.  Disney is very, very good to them and they love their jobs at WDW.  They have opportunities to advance and have. But, as you said, they are good employees and love what they do.

There will always be those who expect better, but just not willing to work for it.  And, then, there will always be those who will badmouth Disney just because.

I think many people have found entertainment they can drive to.  Why take the risk of flying for the next year or so?  It does have the positive of spreading the dollars throughout the country.

I have two family members who have worked for Disney for over twenty years...they say it is a great place to work and they are treated well.

Re: What did Disney expect????

Obviously, I'm sorry that 28,000 people are losing their jobs (that's a lot of pain and suffering). My personal opinion is that Disney is greedy (Over last 40 years I've been to both U.S. parks 8 to 10 times); last year my son and I took 2 grands to Disney for two days in August.  It was hot, crowded and even souvenirs and soft drinks were outrageous. A three day trip, in high season literally cost what DH and I paid two years ago for two weeks in China (including flights and nice hotels).  We drove from Arizona to Annaheim; IMHO that's ridiculous!  I don't think employees are particularly well paid so somebody is making mega bucks!

@RetRN. I assume that esperts is a typo for experts. Look at the context.

@Sooner , I'll be sure to let my friend know. I first heard that expression from him - he works in Disney animation and is the son of a survivor of the camps. But then, he probably didn't know that YOU had declared that no one was allowed to say it.

Shoekitty said, oh give me a break that is just idiotic.  Disney was going to keep parks open against thelaw with hundreds of thousands of visitors?  I imagine there are many who havent lost income or jobs to pay 200@ a ticket.  It is different now.  But with the pandemic taking another upswing due to some reckless states, we will see.   They  should have just closed the country down for a few months in February, and we wouldnt be in this hot mess now, 7 months later. Everyone was running  around in idiots circles, with no manual for the country.  It has been shoot from the hip frm the top, conflicting advice, and such.

i dont think any of us are livng in fear, we just play it safe and smart with the advice given us.

Re: What did Disney expect????

[ Edited ]

A family meber worked Disney here in Ca.  They were one of the top characters.  They are brutal to employees.  I think in the last few years  they have been sued andlost sending characters in heavy costumes in hot sun and storms.  The pay is mediocre for the work and the way they are treated.  The employees come second to the visitors.  They really do cater  to those that visit the park, i will say that!   but the hours are irregular, sporatic, and it is a brutal, authoritarian system with rules at every urn, some good some almost unconstitutional.  It isnt what they present to the public, and the turn overs are  massive. Hey invest a lot into those that play the characters.  They are sent to character school, lol.  The costumes are made to fit .  The employee steps into this laser like booth that digitally measures and draws the pattern to fit to the person wearing tecostume.  Some weigh 50 lbs.  they are beautiful.  Each character gets a locker, and is dressed by a dresser.  They are taught to do own makeup, but they wig people to help.  It is amazing.  They spend tons on each character, and some last less than a hear.  I cant remember, but I think it is a 2 year contract, but stuff happens. Demerits are issued for every costume, speaking, movementinfraction.  Also, stict about minutes spent on each task.  You get so many demerits and they deduct money from check, then you can be fired.  Maybe thats why  disney has bad names given by employees?

I don't understand why you thought "this situation" was going to end any time soon.  Even with a vaccine, "this situation" will go into at least the last part of 2021 or the early months of 2022.  That's always been the prediction for the esperts.

What are esperts?

@RetRN , I'm guessing you know that is a typo but just couldn't resist pointing it out.

@Nataliesgramma , regardless of what you think, attendance is very low, lower than they thought it would be, hence the lay-offs.
