Even American Indians are immigrants, but from long ago when their ancestors crossed over the then-existing land bridge from Russia/Siberia to around Alaska and down.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean it as a correction, just information in response to your question.  This thread is about my favorite subject, anthropology and DNA. I tend to get really excited about it 🙂

No.  All of us have ancestors who were at one time immigrants, i.e. were born outside the US and/or the North American continent, from parents to many generations earlier, but anyone who was born on US soil is the descendant of an immigrant.  If you were born here, you can't be an immigrant.

You seem to be missing the point. If your ancestors came here from somewhere else, you are an immigrant. My grandparents were immigrants so I am as well.

My parents and I were born here, but the point is we are all immigrants unless our ancestors were American Indians.

I am off the boat....26 years ago!!!! Very legal and extremely vetted for 3 year before let to the country of my dreams. Proud citizen for 21 years! Strong believer that this  is the way to come here, not demanding the entitlement.

MIrriam Webster defines a immigrant as someone who comes to a country,to take up permanent residence.  THe term immigrant only applies to the original ancestor who came to the US from somewhere else.  Succeeding generations are not immigrants.

Re: What degree of immigrant am I?

I suppose my point was none of us would be here if our current climate was in force when our parents, grandparents or great grandparents came to our wonderful country we might not be here either. Think about it.
