I like Murphy's Romance, Signs, Stigmata, PS I Love You, Best in Show, B/W version of a Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim. .... need to think on it more.

There are many elements: wind, fire, water
But none quite like the element of surprise

Eyes Wide Shut is by far the worst movie I've ever seen in my entire life.  I could never - ever - sit through it twice.

Love The American President

The Usual Suspects was a really great film, but only for the first time watching it. Once I knew the terrific ending, it wasn't as interesting to sit through any more.  Excellent (although a bit confusing) film though.

Speaking of endings, I really liked Love and Mercy (the Beach Boys film) esp. the clever ending which I think made everyone in the audience smile (it did me).

As for movies with great surprise endings, Shattered (with Tom Berenger)

Which brings to mind another favorite - Major League (the first one was hilarious)

@Bird mama

This reminds me - have you ever seen that movie about the bird-watching contestants, "The Big Year"?  A comedy with Steve Martin, Owen Wilson, and Jack Black.

It was pretty good.  Too much competition for my taste but interesting and reasonably well-done.

I can't say it was a true favorite, but I'd watch it again.

While searching to recall the actual movie name, I came across "The Birders Guide to Everything," which seems to be a coming-of-age movie, with bird watching as the theme.  Looks promising.

Re: What are your top favorite movies?

"Rebecca" -   Alfred Hitchcock's classic movie

Meg Ryan's romantic comedies:

"When Harry Met Sally"

"You've Got Mail"

"Sleepless in Seattle"

"Steel Magnolias"

"The Bishop's Wife"

"It's a Wonderful Life"

The "Thin Man" series

I love old movies from the 30's & 40's.
