While childhood memories are often sweet, there was a lot of decidedly un-sweet things about the "good old days".

Racial discrimination was a way of life

Women stayed at home because that was where they were told to stay

Child and spousal abuse was not prosecuted

The victims of rape suffered humiliation in trial because THEIR lives were put on trial

I don't pine for days gone by. I look to the future and enjoy each day moving forward.

Amen sister!

I miss people having manners and respect for authority. You didn't see people in the store in their pj's, talking on cellphones and cutting in line and hollering obscenities . You didn't have a camera on you every where you go was no need for it if you got caught doing wrong it was handled. Your parents was called and you knew you would be bending over the barrel that night. LOL   Now, the people that call would get a tongue lashing for daring to tell them their little 'darlin's' had acted up.

I liked the drive in movies too. People are all self entitled now days they all seem to think they're Royalty in the U.S. Anything goes..........I'm afraid to go to a walk in movie nowdays I'm sitting by the exit. LOL

Even cable...although only having 3-5 channels in the 70's-early 80's, I liked cable when it 1st came out with about 30-40 channels max...

Who needs all these bagillizon channels on it now...just silly! DH and I only watch about 10 different channels...CNN, PBS, Discovery, TLC, BBC, QVC, History, Animal Planet, The Weather Channel...and maybe a couple more. Why can't cable companies charge us for the # of channels we need?

Ah, just one more reason I liked it when times were simplier Smiley Happy

@SharkE I wonder who are the bigger idiots...the ones who think up these reality shows, the ones that get paid to be in them...

or the ones that actually watch?  Smiley Tongue

Roller skating up and down the street with my friends.  On a rainy day, playing Atari with my dad.   Loved Pac Man, Mrs. Pac Man and Space Invaders! I got the Atari system for Christmas that year.  I think it was bought just as much for him as it was for me!Cat Very Happy

I was flipping channels one night and thought my husband had started paying for the porno channel ! LOL I had to watch long enough to figure out the premise of the show, then,I read on here what the show was about, etc. Haven't turned back to it again. If I'm gonna watch nude people they got to be in better shape then I am.

My memories are chiefly about people I loved who have passed on.  It's the activities and life I shared with these lost loved ones like my parents and the atmosphere of safety and love that some of us are lucky enough to remember, that cast a kind of glow around those days when I look back.

The problems of the world never seem to get solved, and new problems are always arising ... yet I think in terms of civil rights and equality we have made progress.

Re: What are your favorite memories of the "Good Old Days"?

My favorite memories are going to the shore every Summer for weeks at a time with my family. We went to Brigantine and would drive over to Atlantic City to go on Steel Pier! Then when I got old enough to go alone w my friends we would go to Wildwood! Fun, fun, fun times!

My other fond memories are of living in the city where everyone was friendly (unlike here), and playing at the playground, riding my bike, roller skating up and down the pavement, and going to the pool. No one I know lives in the city anymore. However, I still have friends from when I lived in the city and we have kept in touch and still hang out at times!
