Re: What are passengers supposed to do with their hands?

More important than hands is what to do with mouth.  Keep it shut.  Teens especially like to mouth off.  That does nothing but aggravate the situation.

It's actually an ever-increasing number of adults of every age, K.

Human beings have unfortunately become self-important, easily offended, and quicker to anger.

Teens, too, if they didn't have the good fortune of being raised or mentored by decent adults.

I find nothing wrong with asking an officer why you are being stopped.  This is particularly true if you don't know why.  We still have rights in this country and getting stopped shouldn't mean loss of first amendment rights.

Mouthing off?  Or just inquiring both very subjective.

We don't live in China.  That's what they have to do in China.  Yes, we should keep our hands where the officer can see them, but you most certainly can ask the officer questions.  Doesn't mean he'll answer, but your first amendment right is not taken away by a traffic stop.

Um, yeah. We've seen that it has. And the consequences ahve been fatal to those who do.

When the driver of a vehicle gets pulled over?  What if there are many passengers in the back seat besides the one up front.  Where do the hands go?

Very simple answer. Follow the orders given by the Law Enforcement Officer(s). Do exactly what they say, in a timely manner, and this includes ALL passengers in any vehicle, on any Public Roadway.

No LE Officer has a crystal ball when approaching any vehicle, at any time of the day. The more passengers the more dangerous the situation. DO EXACTLY AS ORDERED, with no discussions of " why or what for".

They put their hands wherever the police officer tells them to put them.
