I remember watching the BBC series I, Claudius back in the 70s. Great series, great script. Like The Godfather, some of the most memorable dialogue ever.

One exchange has stuck with me all these years.

Herod [to Claudius]: Trust no one, my friend, no one. Not your most grateful freedman. Not your most intimate friend. Not your dearest child. Not the wife of your bosom. Trust no one.

I don't follow that advice and I always regret it.

But .... so what? There are a lot of people who are way worse off. Everyone has some difficulty in their life. You deal with it. No one has a perfect life.

I feel the same way about people who are so onery about their birthday. We've always celebrated our birthdays. Guys marrying into our family just shake their heads....they don't understand why we go all out on birthdays...they eventually 'adjust'. Ha!

Life is whatever you make it. I've seen stories about people on TV who have eery reason not to be happy in life (usually due to physical pain or issues) yet they help others and don't hate life.

Those are the people I like to spend my time with.
