Financially, I'd say go ahead and buy that piece of land. Otherwise, I think I'd say to figure out what's important in my life and not try to listen and live someone else's dreams.

I think of this often actually... I would tell my 18 year old self, it will all be okay and turn out, maybe not the way you planned but you are happy.

Eat better, exercise more, and spend as much time with those you love as you can.
And once you reach 'comfortable and secure' status, don't worry about "stuff" so much.
