Well, if any of those snowbirds live in NY, NJ, DE or Pa, they are SOL.  Boarders are closed except for essential workers.

Not true for PA.  Our boarders are not closed and it is considered ok for all residents to cross state boarders to go home.

The police are not stopping anyone.

Re: What about snowbirds returning home?

@tsavorite   Yes really.  The states I mentioned, some were done sooner than others.  I am in So. Joisey a tri-state.  All bridges are closed.  Only opened to essential workers.

As reported by our local news.....mayors of beach communities have "ordered" folks staying in their 2nd homes to leave because they are taking up the valuable resources for the year round residents.

FWIW, in Philly, if you are NOT following the 6 ft safe distancing, you will be fined hundreds of dollars.

@Carmie   I would consider that "essential."

Right now I would think some of those Snowbirders from NY / NJ / CT area might be better off staying put where they are than going back into the Epicenter.

Re: What about snowbirds returning home?

Snowbird here -  had planned to leave near the end of April -  just changed that to mid-June and have no idea if return will happen then.   For me, it's certainly not my first choice for a number of reasons but it's doable for me.

I know in normal years, the Canadians birds return home according to their laws, but I have no contact with any of them now that we're confined. No idea what legal hoops they still have to jump through.

There might also be problems for birds that rent because lots of rentals are for just 3 or 4 months.  I do know one couple who left in early March before any of the surges were preventing movement.

Even having to discuss this makes me wish we had national unity so people could even begin to plan.

My friend is in Florida...she is not sure when she will get home, she drives, and will probably have to self quarantine once she is back up north.

Re: What about snowbirds returning home?

Most snowbirds in our community left early March who were able to still fly home.  The Canadians left as soon as they started announcing about the border.

We have many still here who drive home.  Mostly are older and did not want to chance driving, staying at hotels, etc.

Re: What about snowbirds returning home?

delaware borders are not closed........

Delaware State Police say Carney's order "authorizes any Delaware law enforcement officer to stop a vehicle driving within the state simply because it is displaying out-of-state tags."

This authorization does not apply to vehicles traveling on I-95, I-295, or I-495.

During the stop, troopers may ask limited questions related to the driver's recent travel.

The driver will be advised that if they are coming into Delaware from out-of-state, they are required by law to self-quarantine for 14 days while in Delaware or immediately return to their home state, according to news release.

Troopers will be monitoring non-interstate roadways.

Re: What about snowbirds returning home?

Our population triples with summer residents. For the past three weeks many out of State cars and trucks, some hauling ATVs, Bike Racks etc. I know some people who work in our local supermarket and summer folks and said   they have been in grocery shopping. Last week the  local news stations asked them to stay home. There was an article in our weekly paper this week  asking them to stay home. Nope, at their summer homes and cabins. We have Chicago part time residents as well.

Last week interviews on National TV in the Hamptons were also stating an issue with I suppose NYers. Gas is low and people are not working, kids out of school etc. We just do not have them room in our hospitals for an outbreak. On of the  private colleges 75 miles N. may  help house people to quarantine people if needed,as students out of dorms.

Three homes in my neighborhood are seniors who go to Fla. every Winter. They usually return the first week of May.
