Why didn't his transgressions bring out these allegations from women regarding Lauer and others? He continued to host his show and all was forgiven.

Re: What about David Letterman?

Times seem to have changed, I always enjoyed Dave as a host, but I was disappointed in him and think he should have been let go. These men can't say that they thought what they were doing was right.

I thought David was having consensual relationships with these women?  I don't recall rape allegations or sexual assault allegations against him but I didn't follow his story that closely.

Perhaps his transgressions didn't bring out these allegations because there were no allegations to bring out.  What happened was consensual and although morally wrong, there is nothing criminal about a guy cheating on his wife.

I don't remember David LEtterman doing anything criminal.  I thought it was consentual.

I don't remember all the details now...

Re: What about David Letterman?

I frequently read it was an abuse of power. The women involved were his subordinates.

Letterman's behavior probably wouldn't be tolerated today, IMO, even though it was consentual.

I seem to remember something about extortion...

Re: What about David Letterman?

What I recall is that the woman tried to blackmail him into giving her money and he came clean and spoke out against her rather than give her the money.

Is that right?

That is the way I remember it but it has been a long time.  I never heard anything against Letterman in that regard just he stayed single a long time and dated a lot of women.  Nothing wrong with that if always respectful to women.  Being a gentleman and being respectful would be best but definitely not the same thing.

David may have been both to all women due to his own Mother's influence.  If you cannot say or do something in front of your Mom, Wife or Daughter than do not do it.

Re: What about David Letterman?

Letterman's sexism charges stem beyond his jokes and seemingly unfiltered quips. Some have accused the host of running a sexist working environment behind the scenes, a charge that was seemingly validated when Letterman himself admitted on air in 2009 to having extramarital affairs with several female staffers. In October 2009, the same month that Letterman made his confession, former Late Show writer Nell Scovell — one of the few female writers in the show's history — wrote a tell-all account for Vanity Fair, in which she describes her less-than-pleasant experience on his staff:

The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor is an American award for humor awarded by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts annually since 1998. Wikipedia

David Letterman just won this award.

I suspect his subordinates that he chose to have affairs with were fearful of losing their jobs. Any time someone in authority uses their power in that way, it casts a lot of questions as to why he is still receiving awards and his own transgressions were overlooked.
