It actually brings tears to my eyes when I watch those magnificent animals racing. I grew up with horses and I love them so much.

Same~~~I have been around horses and horse racing almost all of my life.

The horses were beautiful and magnificent.  The crowds did not disappoint in dress or enthusiasm. Escorting the horses to the paddocks was great a great procession.

Mike Turrico (sp) and two former Jo keys had an informative discussion about the deaths of horse this, what Santa Anna did to stop horse deaths, and the measures being taken to rectify the situation.

Off topic a little, but Shawn just asked Gary if you have to know someone to go to the Kentucky Derby. Do you have to get invited? Huh?

Then she asked if he had ever been to the Derby and he said yes since he is from Louisville, Kentucky.

Shawn acted completely bowled over upon learning this information. Gary has mentioned this a gazillion times on air, so not sure if it was faked amazement or not.

Worse Derby ever. I watch every year, and own horses.

Well, I agree that it wasn't exactly 1973 standards when the late, great Secretariat won the Derby, then went on to win the Triple Crown.

Big Red won the Belmont Stakes by a mind blowing 31 lengths.

I doubt we will see another "Clark Gable" (dubbed by Vogue) in our lifetime.

It was sad that 7 horses had to be put down before the race. Some were 2 and 3 year old colts. Joseph who is a trainer was suspended. Nothing exciting to see the death of innocent horses.

Horse racing is not all about fame and glory.  My DD has a friend who works at a race course as a walker and she said many a time a horse that did not win got beaten badly for its loss.  There is a bad and cruel side of racing.
