So I agreed to write notes to deployed service members and don't want to be repeating myself with them so what would you write in a blank card?

@ThinkingOutLoud

I'm not clear if you are writing to many people once, or to a few people several times.

If you are writing to many people once, there's no reason you can't use the same comments, unless they are all in the same ... is "regiment" the correct term?  I don't even know what they are all called these days.

I think what I would do is have a few standard notes thought out, and add their names.

Are you handwriting or using a computer print out?

Many local daughters of the American revolution Chapters send letters t and boxed donations to service members. You can check at your local Historic Society or contact the national office in Washington DC to see if you can connect with a local Chapter

 i agree.   I would send an amusing anecdote, a few jokes, puzzles -  funny miltary jokes, animal pics, pics of pets. remember there are many many military women now deployed as well as men.

if they're deployed in the Navy, there are plenty of recreational opportunities and they do get to have fun.  but they rarely get decent night's sleep as there is a racket on the roof at all hours (flight deck)  and the endless PA system and announcements, pitching seas...

not all appreciate "Thank you for your service" .  at least not those on active duty.  perhaps ok said to a retired military or a vet.  per family member (active duty USN)

All of the above including suggestions by @CatsyCline

Include something personal about your life or family life.

You have a hobby?   I'm sure a few lines about it would be appreciated.  Things you feel are mundane & routine would be a welcome sight for someone on active duty

My dad served, I would mention him.

I'm not sure. My local community had a service fair of sorts and this was one of the projects highlighted. I'm supposed to write the cards then take them to someone who will then send them off.

Ok - I just did a search and found operation gratitude (dot) com. It looks like they have various ways to get involved. I'm sure there are other groups as well but hope that helps.
