My husband wraps them in a soft cozy towel and then places him inside the carrier. They don't know what's going on until its too late. Also, we recently bought a new carrier...it's very large and very lightweight.

Here's what we do...
we stand the carrier on its end then lower the cat in back feet first.
works easily! every time.
That's exactly how I do it too. I pick her up and hold her in a way that she doesn't see the carrier. I just put her in like I am putting her back on the ground and she has no idea until it is too late. LOL

Last time I had to do it, it was an emergency and I prayed my husband didn't come home before I did, find the house as if it had been ransacked, no me and no car in the driveway.
I had furniture moved, chairs overturned to use as barricades, fur all over the place!

It's the logical thing to do. Of course, first catching the kitty is another matter...

We have also used the pillow case method but it only works if your kitty likes to crawl into cozy tented spaces. Just entice your cat to come up on the bed where you hold a pillow case opened. Your cat should walk right in. Once in, quickly gather the open end together and carry the sweet little bundle over to the carrier.

oh, and drop the entire pillow case bundle into the carrier!

My girl is sooooooo good. She does not fight me at all! Pick her up and put her in.
Getting her OUT of the carrier once we're at the vet isn't so easy. She digs all four legs in and does not want to come out. She's a big cat so that makes it harder also.
I've heard of the trick of standing a front loader on end and dropping the cat down.
Edited for spelling

No problem with mine whatsoever. They are great in the car and even in the boat. It doesn't phase them in the least to see the carriers. It could have been a horror show since we travel so much, but I lucked out with these two guys.
