What To Do If Got Hacked on FB.......

My Facebook account got hacked. I sent FB a message through their help system weeks ago and they still have not deleted the dummy account. I sent it again, still have heard nothing.

What am I supposed to do?

@Sunshine Kate, are you able to login to your account? If so, you can delete it yourself. Here's how it's done:

eta: If you cannot login to your account, ask a friend to go to your Timeline and use the feature to report the account. In my experience, Facebook responds to those reports within a few days.

@dooBdoo, There is another new account in my exact name and my exact birthdate and a few of my friends. There's not any pictures or other information.

I didn't set it up so I don't have a password to go into it and delete.

Anything I can do? I don't like this account just sitting there when it's not mine. Seems like someone just duplicated it.

Yes. Just go to the Timeline of the fake account and report it. Click the 3 dots to the right of the word "Message," click "Report," and answer/select the appropriate options. What's happened is becoming more and more common, and it's called "Facebook cloning." It's a hazard, because the criminals are gaining access to your and your friends' accounts and personal data.

I have no idea how to fix this, but wish you luck.

I do have a Facebook friend who has the same name as me, and whenever I see a post of hers, it takes me a moment or two to realize I didn't post that!

But it she is a real person, not a hacker.

I did exactly as you described above, (about 3 times). The account is still there. I don't know why it would take FB so long to delete something on a computer. I have had no communication from them.

Well, that's terrible! I wonder if it's because of so much of this happening. Did you go to your "support inbox" to see the status of the reports? I think if it were me, I'd also start asking all my friends to go to the bogus account and report it until it is removed. Maybe the flood of requests will get someone's attention. Keep after them. I'm sorry this happened to you.

This is serious mischief! It also happened to well known author John Sandford and he sent out an angry message on his real FB page, telling people not to respond to friend requests.

Thanks to those who told us how to fix the problem, should it happen to one of us.

My Facebook account was also hacked twice. My son and several friends reported it. I did get a response from Facebook about10 days after. But I made sure to change my password with symbols and numbers.

FB will delete the bogus account.
