Re: What One Couple Tipped for Bad Service

In spite of any negative feelings about it being posted on FB, it is a nice reminder to appreciate when someone is in a predicament not of their choosing and doing the work of 3 or 4 people.

Maybe shaming the restaurant on Facebook for being understaffed would help too.

Re: What One Couple Tipped for Bad Service

I make it a habit never to go to a new restaurant the first month it is in business. Anything and everything can go wrong and obviously this was no exception. Once things settle down and the crowds dissipate a bit, then I'll check it out. I'm glad that this couple didn't take it out on the server, because sometimes it really isn't their fault, but they take all the blame when things don't go right.

I don't think that their saying they haven't heard from the waiter reflects any expectations on their part. The interviewer probably asked the question.

I don't necessarily agree with that either, but some people share virtually everything on Facebook. I've never had the inclination to do that, but younger family members do it all the time. I doubt if they were looking for pats on the back; maybe they were just hoping to inspire others to look at things differently.

I think it was an incredibly kind gesture. But showing the guy's name and the last 4 numbers of his AX Card really isn't smart IMO.

Good for them. If posting about the incident on Facebook inspires others to do the same, then I'm all for it.

That occurred to me as well. They should have X'd the numbers out.

That is really true.

Works for me - this is a teachable moment and they took it. Most of couldn't often leave that kind of acknowledgement of the waiter's plight, but even a standard tip instead of a "stiff" along with a thank you lifts that waiter. My college boyfriend earned his tuition working in a restaurant that sounded like that one and I try hard not to forget those stories when I eat out.
