So my mother got a postcard yesterday in the mail, it's about a Data Breach Litigation. It states your personal information may have been hacked by the Anthem Data Breach. The card says you can get free credit monitoring services and other benefits from a Class Action Settlement that may be available to you. There is a claim number on it and you must send a portion of it back by January 29, 2018. They aren't asking for info, just return the postcard. I'm very suspicious, I don't know what I should have my elderly mother do. Did anyone else get this mail?

@Jordan2, I got one and so did my daughter. One breach was in 2015 and another in 2017.

I got this yesterday too, @Jordan2. I think it's legit because there was a data breach there reported in early 2015. I am going to research this a bit before filling it out but I do think it's legitimate. I think this is the result of a class action lawsuit, to get the free monitoring.

There is a class action suit to settle the case of the 2015 data breach.
There was also a data breach in 2017. That breach culminated in the offer to protect credit for two years. What your mom received is legitimate. She can decide to accept their offer or not.

If mom doesn't want the "protection" ... she can get a whopping monetary compensation of "up to" $36. Sign the card, and mail in (if she wants the monitoring service).

Thanks for the replies. I have time to send it back, I'll give it some thought.

@Jordan2 I got the postcard too. After the Equifax breach DH & I decided to freeze our credit. The thing is there is always a breach & there always will be another one.So many bad actors already have our personal information. Monitoring is like putting a bandaid on a gaping wound.I don’t think it will do any good whatsoever!!
For this reason I think the only way to protect yourself is to freeze your information with all 3 bureaus. That’s the best way to keep all the sticky fingers out of your business!!

I also got the postcard yesterday. Don't ya just love the $36 compensation??? When I got it my first thought was - gee, wasn't that a while ago? So now I'm wondering, I get that there was another breach this year but how do I know if mine really just happened or did so 2 years ago?? If so, I'm po'd that my information could very well have been compromised for 2 years before I was finally notified.
Think it may be time for a credit freeze - face it the analogy of a bandaid on a gaping wound is a good one cuz by now between Target, Anthem, OPM, Equifax I seriously doubt if anyone is safe unless they live off the grid and hunt for their food and get healthcare from a medicine man, geesh.
