What I discovered about reviews!

Many may already have discovered this but I recently did.

You know how you can see 5 star reviews for something, anything?

But then, as good as those may sound, put in search bar reviews of... and whatever you are looking up.

You may find the BBB (Better Business Bureau) reviews and complaints. Astounding how you will see real reviews that often are 1 star to those 5 star under the product website.

I will never take for true those five star reviews again until I look at the BBB reviews.

Sometimes you will see none and that is a good sign-no complaints either.

But sometimes you will see the true story.

Re: What I discovered about reviews!

If you google the name of the product or business and the word review you can find reviews of just about anything. Very often I do this about a product QVC has no reviews on because it is a new configuration or they took the reviews off the website but they can be found. Nothing once posted on a website is gone forever. I always check the BBB when considering hiring someone. I also have posted a bad review about work done and the company refused to make good on fixing a problem. Once I posted they were here the next day.

After my interactions and dealings directly with the BBB! I don't believe much of anything they espouse.

Re: What I discovered about reviews!

I will say I don't know that the complaints to the BBB are always handled successfully but I never noticed the reviews of a product on their website before, just complaints.

I think the 1 star reviews there vs 5 star reviews for the same product on other websites are very helpful, and tell a better story.

IMO, the  BBB is useless.

Oh well.

I agree the BBB can be useless when filing a complaint.

I'm just talking about the reviews there vs on other websites.

I guess I'm glad I discovered what are probably more real reviews.

That's all. Thought maybe it would be helpful.

Re: What I discovered about reviews!

THe BBB has zero authority. They cannot shut down a business or force it to refund money, etc. There was a time when business owners paid big bucks for a BBB seal on the door of their business or website. Selling those seals is how they stayed in business. They will take complaints but that seems to be as far as it goes. Selling their "seal of approval" is their business. May sound impressive, but it just means they bought a seal for their door or website...nothing more. People rely on their own research online.
