Similar situation for me in that the neighbors across the street each have driveways.  One neighbor parks his car halfway up so they don't have far to walk to the front door.  That means anyone that comes over either tries to squeeze behind his car and often hangs out over the sidewalk or  ends up parking in front of their house which  also means it makes it extremely difficult for us to back out of our driveway.  The other neighbor has 2 or 3 cars in their driveway that they rarely drive and their visitors also often park directly across from our drive.

I fail to understand how people can be so disrespectful to others.  It is just common courtesy.  Was it Robert Frost who wrote the poem about fences make good neighbors....?

@Gardengal55  It was Benjamin Franklin-Poor Richard's Almanac.

Do any of your family/friends park in front of your house?  If not, maybe you could get the city to paint the curb red so no one can park there!

@Jordan2, I feel for you. Don't have a clue what the answer is, but its wrong for people to block you in. It would be nice if people would live by the golden rule, but thats too much to ask here in hickville where I live, and I imagine its even worse in NYC. Good luck.

Thanks to everyone for their advice. As far as the cars blocking my driveway I live in NYC and had to call 311 to complain. I was told they would forward the complaint to my local police department. I don't think anyone ever came, I caught the guy who blocked my driveway (he left soon after I called), all he said was sorry.How does someone not realize they're hanging into your driveway? The police will ticket the car, but that's it. I would have to call a towing company to get rid of the car. That is not in my nature. As for my neighbor, she really feels terrible about what she did. If she gives me a problem I will insist going through our insurance company.She doesn't want to as her insurance company recently paid her a lot of money and would probably drop her if she filed a claim.

This is more reason to alert your insurance company and file.

Her foot slipped and she did some damage to your car. Next time, it could be a child. If you fail to submit this to your insurance company, which will probably lead to the end of her driving, that accident would be on you. Do you really want to take that risk? Do the right thing and call your insurance company.

Oh bull... Whether @Jordan2 calls her insurance company or not, it is not her responsibility to ensure her neighbor is a safe driver... If the old woman goes out and wipes out again, it will not be 'on her'... She will not be the one behind the wheel of the car, her neighbor will be. It's up to the local DMV to ensure licensed drivers are capable of driving. That said, if it appears at all that you're going to need to, I wouldn't wait too long to report the accident. Your company will not be happy that you delayed.

Please go through your insurance company.  The DMV may have your neighbor on a "watch" list.   If she loses her license, then that is a good thing for everyone.

How if the estimate is to high and the neighbor don't want to pay?

Then she could say she didn't do it.  Time has elasped and no cop has a report of what happened.

How about yellow paint and diagonal lines?  Just a thought?

As for Granny, insist on going through insurance instead of fanning a fire that is due to happen.  Eventually, she may hurt someone.

That's probably illegal @ECBG.  Municipalities don't like it when you create your own signage....

@Jordan2 311 is a joke.  Take pics with your phone, then go to the precinct and tell them this has been an ongoing problem for you.  Demand some assistance.  Maybe this way, they wlll get ticketed and they'll stop blocking your driveway.
