What Do You Think About Products Like Total Toothpaste?

total

1. constituting or comprising the whole; entire; whole: the total expenditure.

2. of or pertaining to the whole of something: the total effect of a play.

3. complete in extent or degree; absolute; unqualified; utter: a total failure.

4. involving all aspects, elements, participants, resources, etc.; unqualified; all-out: total war.

If Colgate Total toothpaste is "total" why do they make so many varieties? Do I need to use each to have "total" protection? When did a new variety take the place of "new and improved"? Is this part of the reason shelf space and therefore prices are so expensive? Is this why some products only get one row on the shelf and are always sold out? How many more ways do you think manufacturers can find to rip off the public? Why do we keep falling for their ploys? Why am I even bothering to ask?

Total Toothpaste varieties:

Gum Defense
Enamel Strength
Advanced Whitening
Advanced Clean
Advanced Fresh
Clean Mint
Whitening
Mint Stripe
