Hershey's chocolate bar, reeses peanut butter cups, Almond Joys. Basicly anything chocolate but after developing diabetes type 2, and elevated blood sugars and weight gain up to 254 lbs, several knee replacements (3) 1 on the left and 2 on the right I made big changes and no longer eat those candies. Diet and exercise and brought me down to 128 and off medication.

Does anyone remember the BUN maple flavored round candy bar?   It came up in a conversation today.  My brother and I plan to visit a retro candy shop this summer in our childhood town.  I can pass on most candy today from my younger years... but I this one I have a weakness for .  Worth every bite!

Did you love as a kid but can't look at now - mine is Mallo Cup?

Mallo Cups were my absolute favorite candy.  I remember they had a coupon on the little piece of cardboard the candy came package on.  You collected a certain number of coupons (can't remember how many) and stuck them on a piece of scotch tape and sent them to the Boyer company.  In return they sent you more Mallo Cups (can't remember how many).  If they sold them where I live now I know I would still love them.

I was at Crackel Barrel last Sunday with my granddaughter and her boyfriend.  The gift shop had many old fashioned candy bars.  I noticed they had Mallo Cups.

All those old favorites were in there.  I didn't buy any, but they brought back memories.

I still like all the candy I loved as a kid and I still loathe all the candies I hated as a kid!

a great big YUK to:

Anything maple flavored or malted milk flavored.

Those heinous bars of peanuts hardened into blocks with sugar.

Circus peanuts (the orange ones)

Bit O Honey

I don't hate or love Kit Kat or Twix but I can't understand all the people who think they are the best candy.

Oh, and I will always open wide for Chunky! Yum!

My parents owned a candy store while I was growing up...so my favorites changed often.

When I was a high school sophomore, my best friend and I worked the candy counter ( different days ) at the the 5 & 10 Woolworth's.

The first few times, we both consumed a lot of candy but then the novelty wore off thank goodness.

About 10 years ago after a round of golf in the boondocks, DH found a mom &  pop candy that made a lot of the candy themselves.  Since I love red licorice, he bought way too much.

The next day I brought most of it in to the Career Center where my two colleagues and I as well as our clients finished it off.  Between what I had eaten the night before and all day the next day, I broke out in serious hives all over.

I scratched until the hives began to bleed.  Next day my PCP had me on prednisone.  Never had I broken out in hives !

When I go past a display with red licorice, I stop and look at it and then keep walking:  just not worth the pain !

Remember fireballs?  How boy --- we loved those as kids and couldn't get enough of those things.

Although the taste isn't there for much of the candy I loved in my youth, it may be my own tastebuds instead of a change in the candy. I still can't resist getting some candy from my youth when I see it. Necco, circus peanuts, candy corn, mint pillows, those red cherry chewy candies (can't think of the name now), Jordan Almonds, Burnt Peanuts. I still love all kinds of chocolate candy, but the one I really hate that's no longer available and my favorite, 7-Up. It was like getting a small box of chocolates in a bar!7 UP.jpg
