Vamp - I just finished The All Girls Filling Station and loved it! I love Fannie Flagg's books! I think you'll enjoy it.

Thanks, cookie5. I like her books, too--always so warm and funny. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

I finished Liane Moriarty's BIG LITTLE LIES. While I liked it better than THE HUSBAND'S SECRET, it was NOT a favorite. I tired of the format for one thing, and the characters were one dimensional. I thought it crossed the line when one character developed a website. I won't say more so I don't spoil it. I believe I am officially done with this author.

I just finished Mr Mercedes and I was a little underwhelmed. It took me awhile to get into it. I've only read two of his books - Joyland and this book - and I can't say I thought WOW on either one. I think my expectations are very high as he has been a best selling author for soooo long. I've heard the 11/63 (sorry can't remember the whole name) is better - maybe I should try that. Anyway, I will probably read the next installment as I liked the retired Detective.

11/22/63 (if you lived through it you remember the date) was a very good book. Started in a usual King fashion with some of the resale spooky undertones in the small town n Maine, but then went in a whole different direction. I'm not a "Horror" fan, but found this book fascinating.

I'm listening to his Hearts of Atlantis on CD now (20+ discs) and thoroughly enjoying that one, too. I have it playing in the car while running errands and it is a comfortable mystical story.

Finished Beatriz Williams The Secret Life of Violet Grant. It was intriguing and loved the characters. Historical. Could have done w/out the scientific stuff. Liked her 2nd one better.

Onto The Arsonist by Sue Miller.

Linders Back, I also found 11/22/63 to be fascinating. I think it's one of Stephen King's best written books, and one of my favorites of his. If it weren't so long, I'd read it again. And again...

I'm now reading Marching to Zion by Mary Glickman, and enjoying it a lot. I've been meaning to read this and the rest of her books for years but never seemed to get to it.

Very busy around here so not too much time to read, to my great disappointment. But I manage and do the best I can.

Have a happy weekend everyone, and keep reading {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Thanks Linders Back and Sunala - I'll definitely try 11/22/63!

SAGAL, like you I was a bit disappointed in Mr. MERCEDES. I did feel better when I found out it was to be part of a series. I am pretty new to Stephen King. My first read was 11/22/63 which I really enjoyed. LM

SAgal If you want to read an excellent book, read Defending Jacob, by William Landry. I think this book and The House We Grew Up In are my two favorites in the past 2 years. If you do read it, let me know your thoughts. It is a book unlike anything I have ever read and is dark like your recommendation, only darker!
