Re: What Are You Reading --- September 2014

Finished Unbroken.

I wasn't ready to say good-bye to Louis after the last page. It was great to be able to go on Youtube and see and listen to him, even see him with Angelina Jolie and watch the trailer for the movie, see Phillip and the camps and other stuff, real stuff.

One of the best books I've ever read, of any genre.

The movie can never show everything he and others went through. I hope the movie is great, and Louis himself approved of it, but time limits won't allow for everything -- and they can't show a lot of what the POWs went through because people would throw up in the theaters.

I am reading CRITICAL CONDITIONS by Stephen White. This book is about sixteen years old. I have read one of his books before and enjoyed it. So far this book is good but I am slow going on it. Have an eye condition that makes it painful to read at times and also have been busy.

icaughtu, do you ever listen to audio books? That is a great way to enjoy books, too.

Hi Vamp, no I never listen to audio books. I have many friends who do and love them. Guess I am just old and set in my ways. I also don't like Kindles; I like holding the book in my hand, turning the pages, etc.

But if my eye condition gets worse as I get older I might have to start listening to the audio books.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien. I've been reading on it for 2-3 months so far. Very busy lately and haven't had the time unfortunately.

Love the series though and highly recommend both this trilogy as well as The Hobbit by the same author.

I'm not sure why I never read these books in school. I was really into that kind of thing.

SMOKY, I think THE SECRET PLACE is a stand alone book. TANA FRENCH is someone I look for. Love her books! LM

Thank you, Lilysmom. I've put it on hold at my library. I've never read anything by her.

Re: What Are You Reading --- September 2014

Now that I finished Miss Pym Disposes (what a marvelous book), I'm still trying to read Big Little Lies (Liane Moriarty) and I'm finding the characters just so unlikeable.

In the meantime, I've picked up Middlemarch (George Eliot) and can't seem to put it down. I think it's on the list of the 100 Best Books of All Time and I've never read it (probably because it's in the 800 to 900 page range. I have the Kindle version. I understand the print version is extremely small print. I have an eye problem so the Kindle version is much easier for me. I'll see if it continues to hold my interest.

Here is a good one: Mean Streak by Sandra Brown. This is her new book published this month. It is great! The main character is injured while training for a marathon and rescued by a mystery man who will not disclose even his name. The mystery that follows brings nearly everyone into suspicion and hardly anyone is who they seem to be. I like smart characters and lots of action. This book is 5 stars.

lainey, not sure if you noticed this. On the Community Home Page they have created a link to your thread (this one) and called it the QVC Book Club. How great is that!

SMOKY, here are TANA French's books in order. They are all about murders handled by the Dublin murder squad. Goodreads gives them all 4+ stars. I have enjoyed each one of them. You can read them in order or not. I think the first two might be more closely linked than the others. Each can be read as stand alone. Enjoy. She is a good author!

I generally read Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum during the summer, but missed last year so I read #17 last month and found it so/so. Picked up 18 this month and found it less than so/so, so I think I'm finished with her. Same topics, same conversations, same dithering about everything. Sad - because I really enjoyed the series for years.

Totally agree that this series is going downhill for me. Haven't read #21 yet. I don't know why I keep on reading them. The same goes w/Stuart Woods Barrington Stone series. I'm way behind and don't know if I want to catch up and read them or just abandon the series since I know it's the same old stuff w/his series.
