Going to the library this morning to pick up The Other Typist by Suzanne Rindell. I've been wanting to read this for quite some time but the wait list at the library was putting me off. Finally, it's mine! {#emotions_dlg.devil2} I'm really looking forward to it.

I have this book on wait list at the library. Interested in reading your review of it.

I had high hopes and also was wait listed for a while. I hope you will enjoy it better than I did. I'll let you judge for yourself.
I loved it! Picked it up on Saturday and finished it Monday evening. I don't want to spoil the ending, but I will say it gives you plenty to think about. Very twisted.

Re: What Are You Reading --- May 2014

Finished Light in August (William Faulkner). First written around 1932, this book would not be published today. I cringed more than once while listening.

I chose it because actor Will Patton was the narrator and because it (probably) was on sale. In that order.

Quite a story, or several stories about the characters, woven together. I won't forget it.

Previously read:

Heirs and Graces: A Royal Spyness Mystery (Rhys Bowen). I LOVE these books...the characters, the accents. Very entertaining!

Tilt-a-Whirl (The John Ceepak Mysteries) Chris Grabenstein. It was pleasant listening. Doubt I'll read more in the series.

Just started Lost Girls: An Unsolved American Mystery (Robert Kolker). "...a haunting and humanizing account of the true-life search for a serial killer still at large on Long Island, in a compelling tale of unsolved murder and Internet prostitution."

Finished "Dark Harbor" by David Hosp. It is a story about someone killing prostitutes, but when the ex of an attorney becomes a victim, he becomes a suspect. Enjoyed it. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

I just finished Eleanor and Park, a YA fiction by Rainbow Rowell. This book has mostly 4 and 5 star reviews on LibraryThing. It was only a pretty solid 3 stars from me, but I was not as enamored as everyone else.

Before that I read The Way the Crow Flies, Anne-Marie McDonald, which I can't recommend highly enough. Fabulous! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Next up is Sarah Addison Allen's latest, Lost Lake. I've enjoyed all her previous whimsical magical books.

And I have to say I wholeheartedly agree with Sunny about all Kent Haruf's books. One of my favorite authors as well.

You may be the only other person I know who read "The Way the Crow Flies". What a powerful book. I loved it even though the subject was rather disturbing. Beautifully written. Makes Jodi Piccoult and Gillian Flynn look like "want-a-be"s.

I'm currently reading "Becoming Jane Erye" by Sheila Kohler, a fictionalize biograghy of Charlotte Bronte which contains true historical facts and insights about the Bronte sister's upbringing to show how their own lives and acquaintances influenced their writings. Going to have to revisit Jane Eyre and Emily's Wuthering Heights again after reading this.

Supposed to be reading Still Life with Breadcrumbs by Anna Quinlen for book club but have no interest in it. Has anyone read and enjoyed it? I need encouragement.

Count me in as a fan of Ann-Marie MacDonald. I thought her The Way the Crow Flies was brilliant. I also loved her Fall On Your Knees.

I'm hoping she comes out with another book in the next year or so.

A couple additional notes: Kent Haruf is THE BEST.

Still Life with Breadcrumbs was okay, but not remarkable.

The novel about the Brontes was full of errors (I know it's supposed to be fiction, and it sure is!); I could barely stand reading it.

I picked up the Bronte book in a discount bin at the grocery store so wasn't expecting much. It was "light reading" as in actual weight of the book, so perfect for my plane ride. It is prompting me to re-read their novels, however, so that's a good thing.

You haven't prompted me to run out and get Still Life. {#emotions_dlg.laugh} Think I may actually NOt read this month's book for the first time ever since joining my club. I just have this awful feeling it will be another Eat, Pray, Love for me.

Linders Back and Insomniac - I read Quinlend's Still Life with Breadcrumbs and found it enjoyable enough. Wasn't wowed but I do like her prose. Not all books can be on par with or as intense as The Way the Crow Flies (McDonald) nor would I want them to be, LOL! I didn't read Eat, Pray, Love and don't intend to so I can't make that comparison.

I have McDonald's Fall on Your Knees on request from my library.

After watching the Scarlet Pimpernel starring Leslie Howard the other day on TCM, I decided to read the novel by Baroness Orczy. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie (I'm a huge Leslie Howard fan), and have never read the novel before. I was surprised to see what it is about. So far really good.
