Her first is still her best.
Then I read Run, by Ann Patchett which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Now I'm reading an interesting little book called The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry. Very different.
Hi SAgal - No, that was the second. Her first was Garden Spells, but I did like The Sugar Queen too.

Thank you - I put a sample of it on my Kindle so I can read it next - I'm in the beginning of THE FAULT IN OUR STARS - there has been so much buzz about the movie I thought I'd read the book first - any one else read it?

I am just starting book one in the V.C. ANDREWS series.
FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC, PETALS ON THE WIND, IF THERE BE THORNS, SEEDS OF YESTERDAY & GARDEN OF SHADOWS.
The movie of each book is being shown on the Lifetime channel. The movie of the second book will be on May 26th. I am recording the movies because I want to read the books first. Has anyone read these? The first book shows a copyright of 1979 but I had never heard of them until I saw some of the actors interviewed on the Today show.

For years, I read V.C. Andrews books. The plots were always cheesy and loaded with secks. They were my guilty pleasure.

I read every book she wrote until she passed and did not want to read another author under her name--sounds snobby, but by now, many years later, the stories seem to recycle.

I don't it sounds snobby because I think V C Andrews had a certain voice that was perfect for the stories she wrote and I didn't want to read any stories written by someone else either.

Actually, the vast majority of V.C. Andrews' books were written after her death.

Just finished The Wives of Los Alamos by TaraShea Nesbit. How to review this book? It was written very differently w/no conversation and "we," "us," but it did have characters names. The plot was about women in Los Alamos, NM and their lives together. The husbands had a "secret" job which no one knew but ended up being building an atomic bomb.
Onto Diane Keaton (nf) Let's Say It Wasn't Pretty. Not a big fan of hers but I read an excerpt in People magazine and it was interesting.

This book has mostly 4 and 5 star reviews on LibraryThing. It was only a pretty solid 3 stars from me, but I was not as enamored as everyone else.
Before that I read The Way the Crow Flies, Anne-Marie McDonald, which I can't recommend highly enough. Fabulous!
Next up is Sarah Addison Allen's latest, Lost Lake. I've enjoyed all her previous whimsical magical books.
And I have to say I wholeheartedly agree with Sunny about all Kent Haruf's books. One of my favorite authors as well.
You may be the only other person I know who read "The Way the Crow Flies". What a powerful book. I loved it even though the subject was rather disturbing. Beautifully written. Makes Jodi Piccoult and Gillian Flynn look like "want-a-be"s.
I'm currently reading "Becoming Jane Erye" by Sheila Kohler, a fictionalize biograghy of Charlotte Bronte which contains true historical facts and insights about the Bronte sister's upbringing to show how their own lives and acquaintances influenced their writings. Going to have to revisit Jane Eyre and Emily's Wuthering Heights again after reading this.
Supposed to be reading Still Life with Breadcrumbs by Anna Quinlen for book club but have no interest in it. Has anyone read and enjoyed it? I need encouragement.
I have a great book about Emily Bronte, it's called Chainless Soul. I just love it and reread it once a year. Emily was such a fascinating person.
Thanks, MoJoV. I'll look for that one.
