The best was Peter Swanson's "THE KIND WORTH KILLING" - lots of twists and turns in the plot. "NYPD RED 3" by James Patterson was a good entry in this series, and then there was "COLD BETRAYAL" by J A Jance (her Ali Reynolds series). This book was a little slow in the middle, but the beginning and ending were good.
I loved The Kind Worth Killing. Currently reading an autobiography of Debbie Reynolds.

Lola, don't know why the commentary came out like it did. See below....

Even a perfect family has its secrets.
Sixteen-year-old Julia Whitmire appeared to have everything: a famous father, a luxurious Manhattan town house, a coveted spot at the elite Casden prep school. When she is found dead in her bathtub, a handwritten suicide note left on her bed, her parents insist that their daughter would never take her own life. But Julia's enviable world was more complicated than it seemed. The pressure to excel at Casden was enormous. Abuse of prescription drugs ran rampant among students. And a search of Julia's computer reveals that she'd been engaged in a dangerous game of cyberbullying against an unlikely victim.
NYPD detective Ellie Hatcher is convinced the case is a suicide, but she knows from personal experience that a loving family can be the last to accept the truth. As she is pressured to pursue a case she doesn't believe in, she is pulled into Julia's inner circle—an eclectic mix of precocious teenagers from Manhattan's most privileged families as well as street kids from Greenwich Village. But when the target of Julia's harassment continues to receive death threats, Ellie is forced to acknowledge that Julia may have learned the hard way that some secrets should never be told
Lolakimono, I just saw your posting on this book by Alafair Burke. I have read one or two of her books and found them so so ... I could take them or leave them.
Her father, James Lee Burke, is another story. I love his books. I think I have read every one of them over the years. Check him out. While his books don't have to be read in order, it makes more of a storyline if you do. His main character Dave Robichaud, a retired detective, gritty, colorful. Check it out!

Can't put Unbecoming, by Rebecca Scherm, down! Very well written and the plot is a surprise. There are parts that are a little unbelievable, but worth the read!

I am just about done with Erik Larson's Dead Wake. It is excellent!! Much better than the one about the German Ambassador or whatever he was.
I got stuck in an airport for 6 hours and had a 4 hour flight and read American Dervish and most of Dead Wake.
ETA: I was closer to the end than I thought in Dead Wake. I finished it at work on my lunch hour. Highly recommend!

Just finished ""Serena"" which has been made into a movie with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradly Cooper. (Comes out this weekend I think).
It was pretty good. A quick read.
Reminded me a lot of Stephen King's work.

I loved Serena (it was quite startling!). It prompted me to read the rest of Rash's books. I like his writing.

Lori-This made me lol.
But I would still like to know the name of the book so I could be on the lookout
Me too!
Sure.
It's "Cloudstreet" by acclaimed Australian author Tim Winton.
Just after the end of World War II, in Perth, Australia, two very different families, each with its own bad luck, forced to share a rundown house. Sounds interesting, great reviews.
He's a gifted writer but the chapters are chopped up in smaller pieces than a toddler's dinner, it's vulgar at times and rambling, lots of it doesn't make sense to me at all. And almost every character is a terrible person so there's not a lot to root for.
I'm determined to finish it tomorrow and if it magically gets awesome I'll post that but I expect it won't and that I won't have a very g'day.

You're quite welcome, Gimama ![]()
I am loving the latest Flavia. About a quarter of the way through. It's got everything I love about the Flavia series plus a Hogwarts vibe. Excellent!

PTB on Nora Roberts Blood Magick. After 2 books in this series, I knew how it was going to end and the plot was boring me. Glad that series is over and I can go onto Sarah Addison Allen's First Frost.
