I'm loving it! It's beautifully written - won the Pulitzer in 1936. I think the length - a little over a thousand pages - had always put me off in the past, which was silly - but I'm so glad I'm finally reading it!
Highly recommend it! (You will be surprised, though, at a few differences from the movie which I won't give away here for those who haven't yet read it!)

I didn't know there was anyone who hadn't read it! LOL
Hi Judaline - I agree, lol, that I'm probably one of the few who hadn't read GWTW!
I have always leaned more toward non-fiction (about 80% to 20%) but that is no excuse! A friend of mine is working through a list from TIME magazine of the 100 best novels written since 1923 (the year TIME started). After glancing at her list, "Gone With the Wind" jumped out at me - and that's what prompted me to read it! Better late than never, I guess! There are lots more on TIME's list that I haven't read but am looking forward to. So many, many really good books out there - and, of course, not just since 1923!
So much to read - so little time, lol!

Finished The Reading Circle by Ashton Lee. Liked the small town this is set in and the library plot too. Wanted to read the 1st one in the series but the library only has this one. 3rd in series coming out in 2015. Will probably read it.
Onto Lynn Darling (nf) Out of The Woods next.
As for GWTW, never read it either.

I read it in 8th grade, non-stop (took me 3 days). I couldn't put it down and the teacher had to keep telling me to put my book away and pay attention. How my love of reading really started, I think.

I finished The Silkworm (Robert Galbraith/J. K. Rowling). The lady sure does know how to spin a yarn. I thought it was very well plotted. I really enjoyed the book and I'm glad we got to know a little more personal information about Robin. But Cormoran is such a larger-than-life character that Robin comes off a little bland by comparison. I hope she gives Robin more ""personality"" in the next book.

Yes, Robin was much more a minor character this time around (of course, Matt was a big factor in that situation). I'm hopeful.

I read Wendy Wax's books The Accidental Bestseller and Magnolia Wednesdays. Both were ok but neither had any strong female characters to cheer for. The main character in magnolia turned out to be so pathetic and whiny, I started to skip pages to get to the end.
I'm giving chick lit a break. I'm now reading The Keepsake by Tess Gerritsen. It's part of the Rizzoli and Isles mystery series. I love this author's writing style. She has the ability to totally freak me out for the characters so much so that I find myself reading more and more of the book just to find out what happens next.

Reading The Flight of Gemma Hardy by Margo Livesey, a modern retelling of Jane Eyre. I really loved Livesey's Eva Moves the Furniture, and while this one started out well, it is bogging down a bit. (Maybe it's because I am so consumed with the Tour de France, that I can't spend the time to red this straight through).
Listened to a delightful little novel, Girl in Hyacinth Blue, by Susan Vreeland. It traces the ownership of a painting (Is it a real Vermeer?) from the present back through WWII in Amsterdam and further back to its inspiration. Each chapter tells of a different owner and is read by a different person which gives wonderful life to the story: some chapters rather sad and others humorous. I'm not sure I would have enjoyed it as much if I read it as I did listening to it.

I have to agree w/you. I pulled the bookmark on The Accidental Bestseller and I really enjoyed Magnolia Wednesdays. Her series re the women are good. Ocean Beach, etc.

Just read "In the Blood" by Lisa Unger and couldn't put it down! I think it is one of the better psychological thrillers I have read in a while. Subject matter is potentially troublesome(put me in the mind of the movie, "We need to Talk About Kevin"), but I thought the author pulled it together nicely overall. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars due to some issues I had. ![]()
