Re: What Are You Reading --- July 2014

Smokymtngal, thanks so much. I got her new copies, because she lives far away, and mine have either been given away a long time ago or are too precious to part with. So I had Amazon send them directly. It made me so happy to be able to do something for her. Every book is special to me. They may not all be your cup of tea but I think you'll find some gems you'll enjoy! Let me know Smiley Happy

Re: What Are You Reading --- July 2014

I just read one of F Scott Fitzgerald's short stories, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I saw it mentioned on a bibliography list the other day for books to put you in a good mood (or something like that), and I decided to read it. It is delightful. And funny. It makes me want to read more Fitzgerald. Some of his other short stories in this edition sound good too.

Just downloaded Three Wishes by Liane Moriarty; I read The Husband's Secret by the same author last month and really enjoyed it. Anyone else familiar with this author? (I know you're out there Wink). I would love to hear your favorites by her.

I loved her first novel, Three Wishes. It's the only book of hers I've read. But I loved it so much that I included it in a box of new books I sent a beloved aunt who was recently widowed. I got the idea because they were married 63 years and she has talked of being sad how much time she has on her hands. She was so grateful and one by one has been calling me to let me know how much she loves each book. She chose Three Wishes first, I don't know why.

FYI the other books I sent her were Montana 1948 and the sequel Justice by Larry Watson

Case Histories by Kate Atkinson (Jackson Brody #1)

A Yellow Raft in Blue Water by the late Michael Dorris

The Bird Artist by Howard Norman

Patty Jane's House of Curl by Lorna Landvik

Daisy Fae and the Miracle Man by Fannie Flagg (funniest book I've ever read)

Remember Me by Laurie Hendrie

The Sweet Hereafter by Russell Banks

The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery

The Cuckoo's Calling by JK Rowling

(I kept a record in case she loved it so I could do it again and not send her the same book twice! And she is loving them so I'm already trying to get ideas for box #2 even though it will be awhile before she makes her way through these).

LORILORI, what a sweet niece you are! I am certain your beloved aunt treasures you! It's such a thoughtful gift, and a perfect way to distract her in her time of sorrow and fill the long hours. It also invites discussion which engages her further. I am making notes of your books.

Troop Angel - did you ever see the movie they made from this story? I loved it! Brad Pitt! Lainey, the new J.D. Robb book, "FESTIVE IN DEATH" comes out September 9th! I love this series. I just read two great new books: "REMAINS OF INNOCENCE" by J. A. Jance (Joanna Brady series) and "HOUNDED" by David Rosenfelt (Andy Carpenter series). Both were fast, exciting reads for fans of their series. I also read Danielle Steel's latest, "A PERFECT LIFE", which was above average.

No, have never seen it. In fact, I didn't even know there was a movie until I got the book from the library. I definitely want to see it now. Thanks!

The new Inspector Gamache book is due out in August. He is retired and living in Three Pines. This sounds good to me. (you just know he won't be retired for long!)

JUDALINE, you must be a mind reader. DH and I were talking about taking a Fall trip to Quebec which made me think of Louise Penny. Will be looking forward to seeing Inspector Gamache again! LM

.... Seeing Gamache in the book, not Quebec City haha. LM

I was just going to ask if you were going to see him in Quebec, and then I saw your 'aside'. I see my library already has me on the waitlist-I guess they know me by now because I didn't do it myself!
